It's back! Well, not quite, but it's running (full engine rebuild). Just a few little issues to sort out and it'll be all mine again.

Cheers guys! I'm kinda excitied. Not driven it yet. Not seen it. Apparently it's very very smooth too.

Would be nice to have a summer without problems. Still a few other bits to sort out on the car. The dreaded subframe bushes need replacing as well as the HICAS arms. It'll be almost perfect when that's been done though.

dont mention god damn HICAS to me sick of seeing that little red light!! is it the engine you bought of a guy on here youve fitted because u had problems with it to start?

you will be looking at that lovely subframe section i put up then with all the pics y ou will ever need!! in the faq section si nice to see your cars getting there..

No, mine just have a little bit of play in them. The HICAS system works perfectly otherwise.

No, this is the story with my zed and engines. I have not fitted another. The engine that was in my Zed self distructed as previous to my ownership, it had a waste gate actuator unplugged. Whilst the engine was initially a decent unit, it quickly wore due to excessive heat generated by a turbo that was running unlimited boost. When stripped down, the block was found to be in a terrible state and past the point of not return.

Luckily...or rather unluckily, I had a spare rebuildable engine. I'd bought an engine from a guy that uses the forum who garunteed it as 100% running. We did a compression test on this after purchase and found that 1/2 the cylinders to have almost no compression. On closer unspection, found that one of the heads had not been torqued to the block and that a headgasked had a hole in it the size of a 10p peice. So no way would this engine have even fired up, let alone ran!!!!!!!!!!

So, I'd been sold a 5hitter.

BUT, luckily, the block was pretty good and just needed the very lightest of honing. Crank and shells were in as-new condition. Bores were also unscored. All was measured and found to be spot on. So all the pistons bar one were fitted with new rings, had a spare piston as one was damaged. Replaced all the shells and mains.

Reused my old heads which were refaced/cleaned and had all the valves lapped back in. So should have near-perfect compression.

any idea if you will have it back for jae then simon? be good to see you there mate.

glad for you that guy that sold you that engine would have known it was knackered and is a pillock and i hope he is reading this

Cheers Si. Yeah, would like to think that I'll make JAE. The car will be back with me later today I hope all being well.

just take it easy with her for a while i guess, any niggles take it in and get em checked over, better to be a little paranoid for a while that have another dead engine..

yep be good to see you at jae, the first burgers on me.. if you can pry it from me hands!!

Stupidly smooth mate. Just runs like a dream. Had few issues initially, but after the rebuild, the engine started first turn of the key after the bits had been lying on a bench for a month lol.

That first turn of the key after a rebuild is one hell of a moment! Couldn't believe it when my black zed started up.
