the factory figures from nissan

1990 Nissan 300ZX Twin Turbo 0-60 in 5.6secs 1/4mile 14.1 secs

i would love to see a std Z do this.

i no class driver but with my mods I could only get to 60 in 5.9 and 14.5 for the quarter mile.

Think it is the driver mate (unless the cars are ropey which neither of ours are!). Look at slick pete with an NA: he got better times than my high power TT! Quite an art to launching from zero I guess.

Plus the tarmac at Brunters isnt the best for launching, but saying that i did manage a 4.68 0-60 in my Slicktop there last year :p

Nearly half my 8.2 in my NA Ohhhhhhh the shame :D

Why is it so hard to beat factory figures?

I don't know but I wouldn't be suprised if the factory figures are mathematicaly calculated rather than tested with a human driver.

Humans are not perfect and do make mistakes.

I am quite happy with my 5.65 seconds to 60. plenty of room for improvement though!

When they do the tests they don't care about breaking gearboxes etc...... they don't use the clutch and stuff like that. Cos people like us care about 0-60 times :D and they are out to impress

15 years of wear wont help mate

T-Pot, I've just seen your signature.

I know your car is quick but I'm fairly confident it wasn't doing 150mph at the 1/4 mile. PMSL

*****x worded that wrong didnt i lol

I be happy if my na was less than 7 lol

definately time has affected the power of the car but there are ways of making it better with some modifications!

it's all in the start bud ,,if you get a good start, then you can save second's over a 1/4 mile..... ;)

what were slick pete's times? i didnt see any of his figures

I did 6.04secs for the 0 -60. Using my Kuhmo V70s. although I ran a 5.8sec 0-60 at York Dradstrip in April using the Mickey Thompsons.

My best quarter at Brunters was a 14.8, once again I have gone slightly quicker at da Pod on the Mickey Thompsons. Did a 14.63 quarter.

I was well pleased with my times at Bruntingthorpe.

When all the figures are published in the J Tuner Table it should make interesting reading!!! :D :D

several of you were seriously short shifting and also some of you overcooked the initial launch. ;)

they don't use the clutch and stuff like that.

Actually they do use the clutch( they dip it momentarily) BUT they DONT LIFT off the accelerator!! Its called "power shifting" and the consequences of getting it wrong are dire indeed!!!

I got 0-60 in 5.66 secs using datascan (twice).

Car is bog stock but engine had a bottom end rebuild a year ago.

I never tested my TT stock, but with 1 bar boost I have recorded several runs all under 5 secs (4.77sec being my best so far, and 11.89 0-100mph).

It always varies, Magazine tests when the Z32 came out were getting figures as low as 5.0 secs, and one even published a 6.5 sec time. Most were in the mid 5's though.

With the NA, I have only tried it once, it seemed like an ok launch but I only got a 7.8 secs :(

I reed differant time's for the ZED 6secs and 5.6secs.

I think autocar mag got 5.6 and all other mag's got about 6 some ppl say Nissan gave autocar a fast one?? Ithink mod's are better for 0-100 i had an Elan with 225BHP (165 std) and my times were 0-60 6.0 0-100 13.34 and std r 0-60 6.5 0-100 17.5.

Lots of reasons why.

1. They dont care about breaking things.

2. Professional test drivers.

3. Blueprinted and balanced engines, sticky tyres etc.

4. Things like spare tyres, jacks, carpets, sound proofing will all have been removed.

5. It will have a small amount of high octane fuel in the tank etc.

eg the Jaguar E-Type cracking 150 mph - the only one that could manage it was the one that Jaguar used hhhmmmm

I'd agree with the fact that 15 years and a few miles under the belt would mean the engine is pushing out less horses than it did when new.

Several UK magazines recorded 5.6 0-60 and the 1/4 at just over 14; and at various times, not just at the car's launch.

WhatCar managed this in 1993 in a group test to prove the ability of the Mk4 Soopra.

As loads of you have still seen between 5.5 and 6 in fairly stock cars I reckon the car is easily capable of "factory figures" but it is all down to the driver and the launch. Another point on "factory figures" is the series 2 brochure states 0-60 in 5.9!

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Actually they do use the clutch( they dip it momentarily) BUT they DONT LIFT off the accelerator!! Its called "power shifting" and the consequences of getting it wrong are dire indeed!!!

Yep..... just dip the clutch 200rpm before the rev limiter comes in, keep foot on gas. You got to be methodical and positive about it otherwize you'll grind the gears away :D

This is quite hard on clutches and gearboxes, so make sure they are 100% before you do it. Having your clutch slip under maximum engine load will fry it in a VERY short time :(

Thank god i bought a McLeud sintered iron racing clutch :p

But as to why the testers are so quick, maybe that time was the best out of 100 runs in all different cars?

Oh, and if they bust the car they just ask for a new one to go thrash :p

I reed differant time's for the ZED 6secs and 5.6secs.

Car and Driver magazine recorded a flat 5.0 sec time and 13.1 sec 0-100mph with a TT SWB Manual.

Most magazines and tests have achieved around 5.5 - 5.6 secs for the stock Manual TT.

I had a 5.3 0-60 on thursday at jtuner...

just wanted to tell you all lol

Well for my na, I hope to get to 60 without anything falling off and being able to stop within a 2 mile gap

Yep its a ill car

15 years wear plus they had professional drivers.

I know we all think we're a bit handy but a proper race driver will launch much faster than most of us.
