Hello all

Been looking on ebay and well my car has a sports exhaust (looks like the orginal one but much bigger ends)

And a induction Kit

I am thinking of adding decat pipes (On a 1991 it hsould be lega?), a better manifold, chip and iruimum sparks plus

Is this a good idea?

Anyone do chipping?

Are decent spark plugs worth it, running NKG (or is it NGK) spark plugs (brand New)

I wouldnt bother with the irridium plugs but all the rest is good, DTA does a good chip for the NA, also think about an underdrive pulley and flywheel if yours is a manual.

As for manifolds, one of our traders is currently working on them, the ebay ones are for the LHD Z32 and wont fit.

Hi

Is this for LHD

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8073986057&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEBI%3AIT&rd=1

Mine is a manual

Got a link for DTA

Is it possible and not too expensive to get a na t 300bhp?

The only headers currently available for a RHD are in Australia and are rare, wait till Smithy sorts them out over here, probably just a matter of weeks now.

Link to DTA

Not impossible to get to 300bhp although that is about the limit you could expect and it would cost thousands, NOS would be a cheap and nasty fix (imo) for higher BHP.

De-catting is legal on a 1991

IIRC its May 92 that it's an mot failure

theres no data until after sometime in 94 so any 300 before that will be fine

just had my 97na MOT'd and even this one is listed as a no-cat test. The tester advised against removing the cat, but not from an MOT failure point of view.

What was his concerns as you can get some good bhp from removing them

tbh, unless he is an expert on the Z32 I suspect he did'nt know what he was talking about. Some other cars do benefit from leaving the cats in place, due to the way the ECU is setup for fuelling and the expected backpressures..etc

but the NA Zed does benefit from being decatted.

What type of bhp gains will you see from a NA decatted

See I have a sports syste, then decatting it and sports manifold should make a big difference?

I think that the only Z's he sees are mine. All he was saying is that it'll use more fuel snd the ECU might have problems cos it's set up to have a cat.

But, of interest is the fact that he has a 'wooden' leg.

You can imagine the contortions he has to make to get in and out of the car. I remove the targas to help him.

He's a good bloke. We shouldn't jest.

but will taking the cats off induce warning lights or rough running?? or will i need a different chip??

Nismo - SuffolkZX is your man - he's done it all, he'll tell you what's needed. Good looking car you've got there.

Thats a flipping nice Z

Not in my opinion, there are a lot of different thoughts on underdrive pulleys, the main one being that the standard one is a balanced weight and without it you may have problems with the crank at a later date, so far many people have fitted them and I have not heard of any problems at all but I would recommend fitting a well known make such as Unorthodox or SGP (speak to Smithy, forum trader) these will not produce an increase in BHP but will allow the engine to spin up faster and most people say they can definately feel the difference, I certainly could. If the cheaper one doesnt spin absolutely true then I would think you will experience problems.

Also whats the dif in lhd and rhd for a manifold

The steering coloumn on a LHD is on the left, and opposite side for the RHD, it runs down past the headers and fouls them unless you get the correct ones.

No warning lights, its best to completely remove the AIVs if you decat, full run down on how to do this is here never heard of any rough running from cats being removed but would recommend chipping the car.

Honestly if you do all this dont expect to see any more than 230 BHP, I have done all that and more, my last dynorun gave me a BHP figure of 225.

I thought that a Z was 221 bhp standard? plus sports zorst and filter I thought it bew running 235 already?

Or is it because they are so old?

As a rough guess an average 16 year old NA Zed will be running about 175bhp in standard trim due to age, wear and tear on engine etc, it does vary greatly from car to car.

WOW that bad, hmm ideas on restoring it back to its former glory

I doubt many had the full 225bhp even when they left the factory, those would have been optimal figures in a perfect enviroment, here is what I have done to get back to the stock figures that Nissan quoted.

Blitz SUS Induction

Kakimoto Exhaust

SS Decat pipes (Petrol Heads NW)

Unorthodox Underdrive Pulley (Smithy)

Performance chip (DTA)

Shrimpy Grounding kit

Front and rear strut braces (DTA)

Fuel line kit (Smithy)

Rad pipe kit (Smithy)

Brake Master Cylinder Brace (DTA)

Porterfield pads (Smithy)

3G RS10 discs

Chrome hard intake pipes (Smithy)

Carbon Fibre slam panel (Smithy)

Silicone Hoses (Smithy)

Silicone brake booster hoses (Smithy)

Replacement IAA valve feed pipes (Smithy)

Greddy E-01 Multi Display Controller

Custom Built Sunvisor to house above (Audioscape)

AIV Valves removed

Carbon Canister removed and bypassed

Cruise Control removed

Conzult & laptop (DTA)

Rebuilt Autobox (Ztech)

Sod that, but quite a bit is not bhp gains

So you must know where the AIT sensor is then? Could you tell me,

You know you can get these bad resistors that tell this to put more fuel in the engine, is a varable one ok if you have got an induction kit and decate etc,, because your can push more air throught?

I dont even know what an AIT sensor is, do you mean AIV?

Not a good idea in my opinion, the cars are set up to run slightly rich as standard, putting more fuel through without more air has no performance gain that I can see.

The Air intake temperature sensor?
