June 9, 200619 yr hi all! for those of you who have re-trimmed their tweed with leather or whatever and have finished it off with the 17amp wire how did you stick it to the panel or is it just stuffed into the crease, cheers gang :)
June 11, 200619 yr Hi Craig. When i did mine originally, I just pushed it into the recess, but to be honest I never really got an even look to it. As for gluing it, not sure, probably something like UHO, as it's a rubbery type glue, probably at the outer edges of the doors as the recess dissipates at this point. HTH
June 11, 200619 yr when i do my door panels i will be covering the letherette covered pieces with an upholsterers tape and sheet this will protect it from glue, then i will spray the section that is to be recovered with leather, after taking the tweed off, then i will form it onto the door card, i have made some edging tools to press the edges into the channels. leave to dry overnight and then the next day trim into the channels with a sharp knife and then lift the taped sections up that have now got the excess material stuck to it and its all done, no need for the wire. you can also if your not sure put a few fine staples into the channels with an air/electric staple gun and bend the arms over on the back, make sure you get the tip right into the channel and on the material though.
June 11, 200619 yr Author cheers pk1 ive already done one door card and was gona leave the piping off but i think it looks quite good. i thought you had already done your interior anyway mate or have you just left the door cards till last!!
