zedworld are up in the midlands its tamworth on the m42. Great place that get work done well, know the cars and take pride in their work.

they're based in birmingham!

I saw a kit in Halfords the other day to do your own for £40

Does anyone know if this will work on a Z.

I think it was a Simoniz product but might be wrong.

Well if it worked on Simons Z then it'll work on yours doh there's my taxi

not seen it, but is it just a pressurised canister?? if the system is just low on gas this wont be as much of a problem, if it is out of gas then the system needs to be vacuumed down first (no, you cant use your mums hoover :D ).

any more thoughts on this halfords kit...?

its only r13 mate and the zeds run r12

It's a big can of gas and oil with some adapters and a pressure gauge of some sort.

I had a look on their website for more info but it's not listed, although there was something similar on there.

I didn't see what gas it was using though but maybe they do different versions or are all cars using one standard these days?

I got mine refilled by a bloke that repairs fridges on lorrys only cost £30 he reconed they still had access to R12. My be worth a try in your area

No need for R12 imo, mine has whatever the direct replacement is in it, and it works every bit as well.

Just bought a kit from Halfords, £39.99 or + £9.99 fitting charge (the guys in Tonbridge Wells haven’t been trained yet so no could do).

R134a Gas, Oil and leak stop all in the same can.

Going to try it this afternoon

See attached data sheet

Nothing is easy on a Z!

As I have a 91 model, its pre 93 when a worldwide A/C connector standard came in, so I have to buy an adaptor (£25ish), or return the kit to Halfords

The kit support guy said that officially I'd have to have the R12 professionally extracted, if there was any gas in it, sort of implied that if someone were to press the value and all of that nasty R12 gas escaped, then I could just fill it up with this kit.

its not that simple, the system has to be purged properly with a fancy vacuum machine.

the system also needs to hace seals changed look in the faq section i posted a link in the aircon thread to a r12 replacement drop in kit not cheap but chraper than getting in changed professionally

thats right, its very bad for the environment, however thats not the reason it has to be vacced out I don't think.

Just had a long chat with these guys who do the R12 to R134a ‘kit’ http://300zx.co.uk/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=4520

, they are saying that ideally you should have the R12 professionally removed, (Its only an environmental issue, as the leak stop in the modern systems makes the seals swell to avoid leaks, and the old and new systems can coexist) the system pressure tested, new (current standard) connectors fitted and the new oil and gas fitted, plus optionally due to the age of the car a new Receiver Dryer.

Costs £150 to do the first bit plus £36 for a new Receiver Dryer, plus maybe (I didnt ask) VAT on top.

You can still buy their £30 kit, but according to the guy that I spoke to, their kit doesn’t contain adaptors to the Nissan A/C connector! Instead adaptors that would be used by an A/C engineer.

As with all things environmental it’s something you could take a view on, if we were all that green we wouldn’t be driving around in a 15MPG 3l twin turbo car, and removing all of the emissions system that came with the car.

Looks I’ll be ringing around the local A/C Re-Gas firms in Tunbridge Wells and Hastings if I can’t get an adaptor!

R12 connectors are a standard fitting. R134 adapters connect straight on. iv done it on mine.

see my write up in the FAQ section for details & supplier.

you need to vacuum the system to remove the air to draw the gas in, if you just dump the gas in it will not be as efficient!

knew there was a good reason :p Was £60 for the lot, shame that the compressor turned out to be knackered lol, still works bloody well just makes a hell of a noise.
