300ZX, the most unreliable car on the planet!!

Just when I thought things couldn't get any worse, I was heading over to my parents last night in the countryside when both headlight bulbs blew. Total darkness at 60mph on fenland roads, Obe wan kenobi where are you? Managed to drive home with main beam.

I don't know what caused it as I am running 100w bulbs and they are both blown, I have also lost my number plate lights but all the fuses are fine.

Any ideas?

What, you own a Zed and you can't drive in the dark yet? Eat lots of carrots!

I don't bother with the lights and just drive with army surplus IR goggles on instead.

That way, the cops don't see you either!

It's a real bargain..only $375.

Maybe if you tell them you're a Z-driver or a member of twinturbo.net, you can get some extra discount :)

Thanks guys I can use the humour!!

The bulbs should be 50W, at least mine are.

Maybe that's what caused this.

Thanks Maciej but I can't figure out why the fuses didn't blow first it's really weird as it would take some sort of power surge to blow the bulbs.

Cheers

Stu

Stu, it's because the bulbs are getting too hot!

The wiring can handle the power but the bulb is getting so hot it's melting. One good bump in the road will usually finish them off.

That's why we are all driving in the dark. We have tried the 100w route but they blow too easily. If you want 100w you may have to kick out your glass lenses!!!!

Ahh that would explain it as the weather has gone milder, it was probably cool enough over the previously freezing period.

Stu, as I suggested in another post, if you want to double the power of the front lights just blu-tack a couple of glow worms to the lense.

Now change the subject quickly before you get flamed for bringing up the bulb debate again. It's now considered a banned topic!!

On the subject of bulbs...

Should I plant Crocus or Daffodils?

I too know the disappointmentof blown bulbs - I had one blow on Saturdayafter 1.5 years of faithful service....replaced with a 100w bulb and it lasted 4 days....I'm going to buy 2 sets of bulbs - one lot of 100w bulbs and a spare set of 55w bulbs just in case some are better quality than others!!! I get by with my foglights!!

sssnnnoooooooorrrrrrrrr huh hu h sorry i fell asleep again , dont you want ot repeaT THIS ALL AGAIN LOL.

i have never had a problem with my light bulbs guess cause my car is sitting in a garage for the last 6 months he he he
