I was removing the mesh from around my maf this morning (well worth doing IMHO car feels smoother now..) and noticed all these bits in front of the main Radiator. Just wondering what all these coolers are for? (pic attached..)

Also noticed these air feeds leading behind the main headlights and wondered where they were ducting air 2/from?

Edit: Reason i ask is the most forward of the coolers has seen better days but its tiny so cannot be that important (famous last words...) Also, not quite shown in the picture is another, larger cooler under the small vained one that can be seen in the pic...

Small one is the engine oil cooler, Larger one is the gearbox oil cooler.

My small one looks a state also :o :D

Those air ducts were connected to the original air filter box.

What about the 3rd one that i saw that was under the tiny one thats in a state. Where do the air ducts feed from?

Thanks andy

Ducts from inside the wings I beleive

the bigger one is the oil cooler and the smaller one is a power steering cooler, not very good and can be removed if needed ;)

yep they are easy to remove if the bumper is off.

Yup, you dont need those ducts when you remove the standard air box. IIRC, they basically just loop back up toward the throttle bodies. You can complately remove these, then cap of the hole thats left. Then the air will go straight from the filter, up to the throttle bodies. Some people say the zed sounds a bit more 'throaty' when you do.

Have a look 'ere

NA owners with aftermarket intakes...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was wondering, how many of you guys who removed the stock air box, also removed the plastic intake plumbing that goes to the fenders?

We found something pretty interesting that maybe a lot of you NA owners are not aware of. While my buddy KENZ had his Z in the bodyshop, we noticed that the intake tubing on his NA Z had an extra set of tubing rerouting air from intake tubes that go to the throttle bodies back into the side tubing that feeds the stock air box. My guess is, it's for resonation. But, here's what we theorized... If you have an aftermarket filter in place of the stock air box, all that rerouted air is pretty much dumping nowhere. We were sure that it probably would affect performance from only a portion of air coming through the intake actually making it to the throttle bodies. So we had all that useless piping pulled out and put a cap to plug the left over hole on the intake pipes going to the throttle bodies. The result was a definite change in intake sound and a better throttle response. Even his exhaust sounded better.

This just for NA's or TTs as well? So presumably if the bumper isnt coming off, you could just block the 2 intake things in my picture, and then sort it out properly next time the bumpers off

The loop back system is for NAs only. The TT system has the same tube without the loop back tubing. Personally I would ditch the lot as it'll give you more room to put any other bits you want instead! eg. Mounting HID Ballasts.

Thanks for the info guys, scooty dont suppose you could copy that thread here ive not registered with the site...
