There is no illumination to the left dash pod that contains the air-con controls.

I presume the bulbs have failed.

Is it possible to open/remove just this unit or does the whole dash need to come off to replace them? If yes then how?

 

Yes, you can remove the two screws on the bottom of the pod and then you can take it out.

The bulbs in the pod are small blue lamps, which are pretty hard to get (unless you want to get raped by your local Nissan dealer)

i am interested in the shell of it, just the back part that bolts to the dash.

 

the screw holes in the back are all mangled in mine and i had to do a blue peter to make the control panel fit and hazard switch work properly.
