Just after driving my car for a about 10 mins this morning, i found a lot of steam rising from behind the engine (when looking forward into it) and water leaking out the bottom.

It was making a hissing noise so gave Mark from Zen Garage a call who just told me to keep the water in the radiator topped up before trying again. anyway, got it home now, still leaking water as soon as i put it in.

anyone know where i might be able to get this looked at without the garage taking the piss and leading me down the garden path!?

Any help appreciated!

Jim.

Sounds like your heater matrix has given up the ghost. You need to loop the water feed and returns to it ASAP before driving anymore. If it is the matrix its a dash out job im afraid.

cool, cheers guys. i'm based in Oxted near reigate/redhill/caterham that kind of area. just off junction 6 m25.

where could i find a replacement heater matrix? when i release the radiator cap after driving it hisses for a second then all the pressure is gone. there's definately a hole somewhere in the pipes because it hisses for a while after the car has been turned off, causing all the pressure to drop from the water pump!

oh you're in croydon paul? do you anything about this problem?

what do you mean by 'dash out job' v6? is it a complete mission to get to?

Re-Read your post, i thought the steam was in the car lol, as its actually coming from behind the engine its not your heater matrix.

As previosuly mentioned its prolly one of the pipes at the back like the heater feed and return pipes, or one of the turbo water bypass hoses.

oh fair play, cheers mate, it's definately coming out from behind the engine. i got some video of it on my phone but not sure i can upload it on here!

it sounds like an old kettle boiling after i've turned the engine off!

Hi Mate, I had the same problem earlier this year. There was a 4 inch piece of pipe leaking at the back of the engine. Couldn't even see it. It cost £80.00 to get fixed at the garage as the only way to get at it was on a ramp and then fixed mainly by feel. At least it's a lot less to replace than a heater matrix!!!

well...

i took it to my local garage and after a good 3 hours of looking, they decided it was a small pipe that was leaking water behind the engine!

does anyone know if it's just a standard pipe or whether i'd need to order a specific one from nissan?

i'll try and get some photos up tomorrow, but how easy is it to take off some of the wires behind the engine to get to the water pipes underneath?

leaking water pipes....well worth getting a full water bypass done it cuts out all of the little bitty pipes which are only of use in extreme cold climates and just go pop when you least expect...ask Mark or Martyn at Zen they did mine and not a drop has leaked since...come to think i havent had to put a drop in either....:)

yeah, i tried them but they're booked up for months!

it was really smoking earlier so i poured some rad weld into the radiator which is meant to block up any small leaks in the water hoses.

however after driving it for about half an hour this afternoon, the engine just cut out! no idea why. whenever i take it into a garage, they laugh at me and say it's gonna cost me 3 hours labour just to get to the bloody pipes at the back!

i'm in a tricky situation. either i try and replace it myself (could take days) or get shafted for taking it into a garage and hope that solves the problem.

what are the signs of a blown or leaking head gasket?

i poured some rad weld into the radiator

?

Probably the worst thing you can do to an engine!

absolutely mate could'nt think of anything worse, the last thing you want to do is block up water ways with that shit :slap:

what are the signs of a blown or leaking head gasket?

oil in the rad water....can look like white blobby stuff floating around in the neck of the rad

The matrix pipes are nissan only jobbies as they are contoured.

I did min a couple of years ago, a bit fiddley but only an hour or so to do.

oh, my bad i used it after a mechanic reccommended it! won't be doing that again.

i spoke to someone today who said i should replace all the water hoses behind the engine (8 of them?) just in case more than one has split.

so i don't think my head gasket's blown although the mechanic also said whilst he was pouring water into the radiator and it came bubbling up that it 'shouldn't be doing that!'. surely that's becuase the radiator was still bloody hot as i'd just turned the engine off!!!

also...when im driving at like 80mph, the car will feel like it's pulling forward and then slowing down even though my foot is consistent on the throttle?

could this be to do with the water leak i have developed?
