hi guys just signed up the night.

 

im not an owner just yet but im looking into it currently im drivin a mk6 rs2000 but its gettin a tad boring now. iv always wanted the 300zx twin turbo so nows the time to get 1 :D. but i need help in how to find a good one what do i need to look out for? are the cars pretty reliable? the rs can be a bit of a nightmare!!

A good low milage car that has been well looked after and sevice every 4000 miles will give you years of good service, but they must be seviced and maintained properly and that isn't cheep. Far too many cars out there have been bought as cheep supercars and maintenace and repairs bodged because of the cost involve. If you buy one of those cars you will pay deerly.

 

The 300zx TT is not a cheep super car to run and when they go wrong may cost a grand or 2 to fix, but get a good one and care for it properly and you will be well pleased. If you ask here someone from your area will go and look at Zeds with you.

 

Don't jump at the first one just cos its blinged up.

cheers for that bit of advice there im gettin a tad twitchy seeing as iv just checked the insurance and its working out only £2 more expencive than my ford escort rs2000 lol. iv seen alot of nice z's on ebay and autotrader but what is a gd price for a 1990 model twin turbo ? what would u guys say is the best the tagra top or solid? i like the tagra top just hope they aint lemons..

hi and welcome, the solid is called the slick top and is only available as a short wheel base. lighter and more ridged. targa is in the short or long wheel base tt or n/a models

imo i love the targa's if only we had some sun to get them off

There are a few good ones for sale on here at the moment. I'd steer clear of Ebay Zeds unless they are being sold by an enthusiast. Most of the £2000 dogs are on Ebay.

 

Pay a bit more for a good one and it will be reliable - it's a Nissan afterall ;)

 

I've had mine 3 years now - UK spec car that had 60k miles and FSH when I bought it. It's now up to 80k and has never let me down at all.

To give you a good idea of running cost of one, you are looking at about £30 a week on maintainence alone.

 

I bought mine 4 years ago and has cost me around £6k to maintain, tyres, servicing, bits etc, thats bearing in mind nothing major has gone wrong.

 

The cooling system is a bit of a nightmare on these things, try and find one thats got new water hoses and water pump etc.

 

They are good cars but need alot of love and care.

 

Good luck.

Jap imports are a good bet if your willing to spend £4000 - £6000 and wait 3 months. Dont think about trying to scrape enough money to buy a cheap one and then pray for good luck. A zed doing 250 miles a week can cost £5000 a year to run before exceptional maintenance.

The old saying you only get what you pay for make sure you get a good one as a cheap one may seem like a bargain but will end up costing money i agree £4000-£6000 will buy a good one stay away from so called bargains
