Hi, can someone please go have a look at their sub fan relay thats in the fuse box in the engine bay. I need to know the colour of it and part number written on the side so I can get a replacement one.

Thanks all, Ed

well i have asked 2 people who are breaking z32's and they have some relays but dont know which one it is as they are not in the car any more. so i need a description to give them. If they both have 1 I'll buy the cheapest and post the email address of the other one for you!

I'm wondering if its a common thing/failure. But i have been told that the viscous fan will not run without it and the engine will cook once turned off so i want one soon as!

There you go!

DAB1 are you sure the pictures you took are of the sub fan relay? I got one that matches your picture and it fits the socket in the car but when i put it in i noticed that the socket is blue and the relay is green. All the others are colour matched, are you sure its the right relay?

Can some other people go have a look at their sub fan relay and tell me if it matches the pictures? Thanks All

just been out in the car and the relay has not made any difference. I still dont hear a fan after the engine is stopped and the temp rises to 90c once the engine is stopped!

Any ideas?!

That's correct..Zeds don't have this feature.

The aux. fan will only turn on at 105C (or 95C when aircon is on) and turn off as soon as you turn off the ignition.

no, not really.. having a fan turned on after the engine is off won't help much either. You'd need an electric coolant pump instead of a a belt driven one.

There's a guy in the US that has converted to an electric pump, but it involves a lot of work:

To get maximum effect this is very true, but many cars have overrun on the cooling fans, and not all of them have electric water pumps, in fact very few do.

Drawing cold (compared to 90C of the engine) air into the engine bay and through the radiator after the engine has stopped, will have a positive effect.

I’ll be upgrading my manual switch to a timer switch this weekend, and later fitting a separate (surface mount) thermostat that turns the fan on at 90C (irrespective of the A/C status or speed).

So what does the sub fan relay do then? DAB1 your fusebox looks the same as my imported manual tt.

As mentioned earlier there are two supplies to the electric cooling fan, I'm not sure if the 'sub' is the main or supplementary supply. Basically one supply is energized at the lower temp range, and the second only comes in at the higher temp range, causing the fan to spin faster and generate more cooling.

The bottom right relay is marked up as the Sub Fan on my casing, just taken it out and the holder is blue, so looks like someone has replaced it with a grenn relay.

Electrically they are the same, ie coil on 1 & 2 and normally open contacts on 3 & 5, I'd guess that the current rating might be different.

The number on the blue one is as follows

3OCF

25230

C9980
