Hi All - looking at the summer months engine wear prevention post earlier, was thinking..do vented nose panels really help keep the temp down..also how about uprated cold air feeds to the induction kit? (i have an Apexi)

Will one of these slam panels fit/ work or be useful, if 1). An Apexi is fitted and 2). A vented nose panel is fitted?

Thanks

Ed

>>> do vented nose panels really help keep the temp down.

most don't and are only for "cosmetic" purposes

these type nosepanels do help keep temps down: vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=3504

(can be bought from zcentre)

actually nose panels keep the temp down only if used with a bonnet similar to Lymon's, infact 90% of the job is handle bu the hood

i have the same panel as the one above (obviously...!) - great for letting fresh air directly into the cone filter but probably not so useful for cooling the engine bay (as said above, unless you have a vented bonnet)

oh, and they look kewl

aye my twopence worth ;) "iff nothing can get out then nothing goes in" as in a vent out the back as in a bonnet vent as in why dont i have one :headvswal

I notice you have an FMIC on there, was that much of a chew on to fit?

I was going to uprate mine with bigger deeper ones, but would prefer the front mount ideally.

Mesh stops water? ;)

Paul

Yup!-it's special mesh with no holes! :wack:

it tends to stop the majority of the rain falling directly onto the filter :smash:

This is true.....Honest...

Ive only ever suffered this problem once...Thats over a couple of years ;)

And I think that was due to me being over keen with the jet wash

But Mantas comment is top:-

It's a HKS FMIC and fits quite well.

Just some minor modifications needed, mostly to the bumper

Ah ok then, I can see that its two single coolers joined together, that was my query really.

I can see by your pic how it all works, its just modified pipes really and I can see you've needed to modify the plastic holders for the sidelights, one more thing tho.....

Did you have to relocate your oil cooler as it looks like thats it on the rhs infront of the wheel?

My oil cooler is located just in front of the rad.

A back facing vent on the nose panel (like the one I sold to Z Nut) is likely to drag air up and out so therefore more "fresh air" is being circulated through the induction but not for cooling purposes. (I think)... :D

>> Did you have to relocate your oil cooler as it looks like thats it on the rhs infront of the wheel?

Yes, in that picture I had it relocated in front of the rhs wheel, but I wasn't very happy with the cooling so I've recently moved it somewhere else.

It's now in a almost horizontal position just under the (vented) nosepanel and this works better.

This way it doesn't interfere much with the main airflow to the radiator and still the oilcooler gets enough airflow.

>> Wheres your intake?

if you look closely, you can see a glimpse of the 2 apexi filters behind each foglight.
