Any help on how to rid the noise from one of the hydraulic lifters? At least thats what I think the noise is??

Trick I always use: see if adding 1 coffeecup ATF to the engine oil helps to free up the lifter. (go for a 15-30min drive after you have added the ATF)

do an engine flush and renew oil and filter with decent quality oil. hopefully that will cure it, maybe not straight away but it might work its way in there and free off the lifter.

Sorry but whats ATF. Thanks

its Automatic Transmission Fluid, same stuff as you will find in the power steering system.

Anyone else heard about this trick of putting in one cup of ATF in the oil to free up the lifter??

works well to,id advise replacing the oil after a couple of hours of the atf in there, its known to eat seals not the wildlife variety ;)

So you saying pour a cup of ATF in the oil, drive the car around for a few hours and then do an oil change??

yep,and use a good quality fully synthetic

during your next oil change. Just be sure to substitute one quart of oil for one quart of either additive. Worked wonderfully on my Z.

While adding a little ATF is something I have heard before, it's really not very helpful as most modern oils have more detergents/cleaning agents than ATF.

Be warned, either route- you could be setting yourself up for oil leaks.

a technical service bulletin specifically to help Nissan techs determine whether it was a ticking lifter/VTC noise, or the auto tensioner. Shoot me an email if you'd like the TSB, and I'll see if I can dig it up.
