Im sick of these trees that grow right against my fence, I have to keep cutting them back for overhanging the garden, my soil is riddled with their roots and they shed all their leaves into my garden and pond.

I HATE TREES :D

ive cut them right back but how can i kill them and stop them growing any more, i hear if you drill into the trunk near the bottom and pour diesel in that kills them but i dont know if its true

I bet this is the first question here that nobody knows LOL

There is some root killer stuff you can buy from a hardware shop, chop them down and spread the powder on their roots.

Tetra can and a match will do the trick

that sounds good if i can get special "non fence burning" matches

Bang a copper nail into the trunk low down.......apparently :-)

The copper is like poison to trees, the diesel trick might work being a liquid and drawn up the truck.

Or cut a one inch ring of bark off the trunk low down, it must go all the way around the trunk.

Correct only if you have pets or small kids don't spread the rootkiller around the root due to the health and safety risk. Instead bore deep holes into the top of the Stump and/or if able dig away at some of the larger root and bore holes in them and fill all the holes with the rootkiller.

If the trees are large mature trees watch out in the next couple of years for subsidance caused by the roots rotting away.

If trees are still young dig out as much root possible. If they are lilac this is very important as they send suckers throughout the garden and will grow back and are difficult to kill even with root killer.

Depending on the tree you may have to apply 2rd and 3rd applications of rootkiller over the next 2-3 months to be on the safe side.

Good luck.

Only problem with that is if the trees are mature because it will take 2-3 years to completely kill them and unless you chop away as much of the top as you can. It will be in danger of falling down in strong winds, as it will die slowly and in bits. Therefore you are left with a half dead tree some of it alive some of it rotting away and in great danger of fallling on your head, car, house, etc.

Always with mature trees remove as much as possible.

Any further gardening questions will be gladly answered.

Provided it's a petrol mower with adjustable blades. And I get to take your Zed for a spin.

Although probably against the law to kill off someone elses trees the best way is to drill a 1cm hole into the center of the tree, fill it with Ammonium Sulphamate and close with a cork.

He is either a trusting man, drunk or you bribed him. No matter which enjoy

cut down the tree, drill holes in the stumps and pour diesel in the holes.Nothing will grow there again.

i still think my suggestion is the best.. more fun too!!!!

I bet Daz (Madhamster) could get hold of a few 'intereting' contraptions from CAT to help you out bud :D

Inter-Continental Balistic Missile should sort it out, but keep pets and children out of the way :D

go and buy candles then get a priest to the garden to perform "anti tree magic shite" but its best performed after not shaving for 6 months and stinking of piza and mushroom soup

Some of you may not remember the muppet called senna who used to be on here. Im glad he's not around now cos he would have probably climbed the tree and lived there in protest LOL

Thanks I've returned and it was wonderful. Didn't take it past 120mph this time. Blow away the local idots in there so called hot hatches, a Porcha Boxer and large BMW while keeping a weary eye out for Mr Plod.

Oh yes scared the willies off some old bloke in a Mercedes when I flew by him and then had to brake due to lights changing sudden change brought about a nice large flame-off.
