as above, it was a new model designation to signify a more luxury branding.

Nissan launched the ZX brand as a more upmarket version of the original Z brand in 1977.

 

That's why its the 350z, they've down a gear in performance and looks ;) :rofl:

240Z in 1970, 260Z 1974, 280ZX came out in 1975.

They wanted to go back to basics with the 350z. The 350z is meant as a 240z replacement, rather than a 300zx replacement.

And the Nissan Sunny Coupe 1.6 and 1.8 ZX and Sunny hatchback 1.8 ZX :confused:

 

I always used to think that the ZX range of a particular Nissan model was the sportier version of that model
