Hi I have had two twin t 300zx's in the last four months and I must admit I am dissapointed by the power. They are reasonably fast but I couldnt really say I am blown away by the performance.

Everyone seems to give glowing reports about the raw power. Have you guys git any thoughts on this?

Does anyone live near tunbridge wells per chance with a tt that they know is a beast that would be willing to show me?

Thanks peeps!!

What you also have to remember is you just get used to it! My bro had a 470bhp 32GTR and it was FAF running a high 11 quarter and 4 sec 60`s. He sold it for practical reasons and bought a RB5 running 285bhp and hitting the 60`s in just over 5 secs and running low 13`s. Got rid asap as it was not doing it for him, said it was slow!!!!!! Just compare the figures for the Z with other vehicles. With a 5.5 to 60 and 150 ltd it`s no slow coach but are the type of figures you are just going to get used to!

I must agree with you. after a while you get used to the power and speed as well as the smooth delivery of it. I think this is part of the reason for so many people doing mods.

if your ever round the bristol way ill be happy to test it out for you mate, mine was running saftey for ages soi know what it feels like lol

thats what I keep telling people when I say its not a dangerous car, just cos they drive around in 1.4 ltr mondeos all day they might find it fast but you get used to that power and it feels normal + is only dangerous if you drive it like a tw*t. im excited now knowing that I may have a wedge of power to come hehe....

if your O2's are no good, switching them out will only help with light-medium throttle and within a certain rev range. To check if you're in safety mode go for a drive then before switching off, put a test light or multimeter on your boost solenoid connector and rev the engine to around 2k. If you get power, you aren't in safety mode.

right, so definatly my car is no where near as fast as a m3! had this before and guys say they are faster than a new m3. Just had a drive of an 04 m3 and my car (uk TT auto) is no where near as fast. The acceleration is not as hard, power not as good through the rev band.

Is this something wrong with my TT or is an m3 (04 reg) just too fast and brutal? I was hoping my z32TT would feel the same when booted and it just doesnt

as jason farrow said , we will be at bluewater meet next tuesday , if you cant wait till then i have an auto tt , with slight mods ,be glad to give you a test drive and drive yours soon tell you if its pulling right. theres a list of things that could be wrong or need tweaking , is yours auto or maual ?

sorry should have added, the drive is to get up to operating temp as you'll be in safety til then anyway.. you might want to also put your foot down a couple of times to test if detonation may be causing it.

I got used to the standard boost and upped mine to 13psi and I can deffinitely say this is quicker than a m3...the boot in the back is awesome now and takes off so quick it is worrying sometimes...god bless overdrive off

I'm in southborough mate, just up the road. Give me a pm if you want to meet up and have a look at mine sometime or me to have a look at yours. I'm working quite a lot but will sort something out. :nana2: Dave

sweet, tonbridge is just up the road :) I would def like that.

I know what detonation is but how can you actually tell if your car is suffering from it???

I'm gonna get the 02s sensors changed any ol' how I thinks.

Check out how popular this post has become - hehe....

i thought this at one point but that said i can beat other decent sports cars so must be quick??,

anyone have meets near nottingham who could check mine out? although i think its running right, but i have never owned another zed so wouldnt know if it was in safety!!.

why not unlead and how do you change the the boost preasure

ah right, boost controller, in that case the solenoids will be disconnected and you wont have safety boost, it will still retard your ignition though.

You know your stuff, a quick Question then if i may ( PLease) my car did have a boost controller at some stage but has been removed prior to me owning the car

at that time it looks like the boost solonoids where also removed so at the mo my car has both wastegate actuator plugs disconnected. hense safty boost i presume???, im looking at getting a boost controller at the weekend, which would you recomend?? and would these being disconnected shaft my car or cause many other problems.

cheers Craig

i want 13 psi boost yay!!! hehe soon i hope

  • 1 year later...

My zed has a Greddy Profec spec B (series 1) electronic boost controller set at 14psi .

it has a scarab downpipes with the silencers, is decatted, performance exhaust..apexi induction kit, John Dixon Chip..

When I first got it a few weeks ago it was really responsive and I was well impressed with the power... It definately made your head snap back. I kept Neck to Neck with single Turbo RX7 which was claimed to be running at 400+BHP even then it felt it had much more to give...

but recently however after having a problem with alternator or water pump belt slipping,,,, when I had it replaced and also had a service and changed the oil to Millers 15/60 Fully Synthetic..

to my dissapointment now the car feels as if it has lost power,, and doesnt have that head snapping power anymore... it has just gone plain slow

Dont know whats happened but there is less power... that is for certain.. just feels like an ordinary standard zed now...

Any suggestions guys

Have you done an ECU error test -

Method 1 - http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html

Mothod 2- http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnetfaq/FAQpages/ECUdiagnostics.html

Do you have aftermarket boost guage - your should really have one with uprated boost.

not that it helps much but i have no problems with the power on mine, i am running, apexi intake, JD chip, Stg 2 turbos, ss exhaust, profec b spec II set at 10 psi low boost and 15psi high boost and tbh it will literally slam you back in your seat!!!

The gain setting on the controller has a lot to do with it to if the gain figure is a lot lower than the psi the boost will come on gradually, if however you want a bit of "snap" set the gain to no more than 4 away from the psi figure ;)

Did you buy the car from a guy in Tonbridge Wells? I test drove a black Auto TT there a few weeks ago and there was deffinatly something wrong with it. No turbo boost at all. Wonder if it is the same car?

i sold my 200sx s13 today, finaly got it all running perfectly and on the way to sell it my mate followed me down, he was driving the 200 sx, i was in my new 300 swb. i got beaten from a rolling start by my old car with someone else driving it!!!!!! gutted. s13 with 16 p.s.i. from a t28 is quicker in a straight line than a 3 litre twin turbo. fact
