Can anyone tell me what to do with the wire that leaves the exhaust cats and goes into the bodywork ? IF its left disconnected , is there a dash light that stays on ? Is it possible to empty the cats and then refit them ?

thanks :nana2:

I own a UK spec TT the cats have no wires connected to them. Are you sure they are not the wires for the O2 sensors. If so they have to stay. I have removed my cats no probs, just tight to get at all bolts.

Regards

Kev

thanks kev, mines a jap na and has the cats fitted halfway down the exhaust system, and are about 30cm long, bolted in place , and look easy to remove except for these wires ???

They're the cat temp sensors, you need to remove them and cable tie them up out of the way.

If you cut the wires a light will stay on on the dash.

cheers baz, :) do you know if possible to empty the cats ? with a hammer ? :smash:

You can do it with a hammer and a long drift, but i did it once on my dads car when his cat was knackered and waiting for a new one to come, it sounded very tinny, not very nice.

I have downpipes and decats from chris@getgreddy well worth the money spent.

Baz

cheers baz , yes i think thats the better option , roll on payday :hyper:

When I did mine, I dropped of the rear of the exhaust section,

Got a drill that was long in lenght, about 12" long and 12mm in size.

Raggled the drill inside and the inside of the cats broke up all easy.

Much better than hammering it.

Get all the big bits out, and then start it and give it a wee rev !! ;)

Soon gets rid of all the smaller bits! :D

Bolt it back together and thats it.

Mines sounded much better and a small improvement in performance as well.

Alan.......

i got a set of de-cats off e-bay, went on with no probs and only cost me about 120 (was a few months ago so im not 100%sure!)

Cheers guys, i will start scanning ebay,

I,ve another question, on the down pipes before arriving at the cats, there seems to be a tube that,s connected to the exhaust and runs parallel and re connects further up , any ideas what this is ?

Sounds like the pipes from the AIV's, you can remove them from behind the wheel arch liners when you decat.

Baz

SOUNDS GOOD, but what do these do ?and will it change the runing of my car ?

i have a 90 jap import and i cut the wires on my cats and no light came on at all and if you want to know where the wires go. It goes in the center councel next to the hand blake is where the sencer is at. If you are looking at de-cat down pipes i'm selling mine and the cat-back also.

:hyper: thks blade 300, just bought some of andyz

sounds good

are the decats just a straight bit of pipe?

I ask because I paid a local exhaust company on my old zed to remove the cats.

They charged me £60 and gave me back the cats - They just replaced with straight bit of pipe.

Is this all it is?

exactly what i used on my 200sx jay, gave me the performance and cost alot less than "specialist" 300zx decats.

Think the thing with owning a zed is its too easy to not be resourceful and look around for upgrades that dont have a premium attached. (We suffer along the same lines as the old Ford cosworths, rear windows for the normal sierra was about half that of the cossy even though they were the same size and the zed seems to be the same for things like exhausts)
