There customer service is appalling. Had the all singing all dancing policy with them when my head gasket went last sept, i was 100 mile from home at stanstead airport dropping a mate off.

Phoned them up to get - oh your policy lapsed 6 weeks ago - no letters, no 'would you like to renew' phonecalls, nothing. said i was unaware of this, and could i re-instate there and then.

'oh no, not if you have broken down - that'll be £150-odd for the service that only takes you within 10 mile to the nearest garage.'

Am now with the RAC.

i remember last year, a case where some old chap popped his cloggs in his car as he was parked at the side of the road.

later on some family members came out to the scene to move his car, but low and behold... his car wouldnt start. they found an aa card in the glove box and so called the aa out to assist getting the car home. after explaining the situation the aa refused to assist or pickup the car as the policy holder was dead... Oh Dear!

well done aa, great business! :x:

I have never had a problem with the AA personally, touch wood, I think maybe some people don't read the terms and conditions fully, if at all.

never used any of em to be honnest got the RAC one though the old mans garage for free. just remember to read the small print it's small for a reason guys!

When the Zed went bang they were good as gold, left me at home and towed the Zed to a garage of my choice while I stayed put and supped a pint!!!!

Must have been bad luck mate....every company has bad apples working for them....but in my opinion they offer a good service.

Hope they don't now prove me wrong!!

i agree with badger, but one bad expirence is enough to put you off. how many people have beento a resturant and had bad service and never gone back even tho the food was top notch?

if it happens twice change, but give em 1 chance

I've broken down a couple of times out in the sticks and phoned for recovery only to have to wait 2 hours whilst being told the guy is on the way and should be about 45 minutes.

On arrival it's not an AA van but the local garage who's been subcontracted and called out in the early hours with some muppet who's half asleep from being dragged out of bed and taking no interest or care with my car.

I told him I'd been waiting 2 hours and he said the AA only called him half an hour ago!

Apparently my area doesn't have full cover in the evenings so they subcontract.

I might as well use Green Flag or whatever they're called now for the same type of service at a third of the price!

we usted to have a police contract and day or night you HAVE to be there and sober you can never have more than 1 pint at anytime. i have full sympathy for those guys who get called out at stupid o'clock i did that with my old man at the age of 9. getting up at 2:30am to get a burn out. those subcontracted guys work hard trust me.

But if i am with the RAC i want a rac bloke to turn up

I think everyone will have good and bad stories about all breakdown services.

Personally, I'm with the AA an they have been pretty good to me on the 2 times I have needed them, whereas a nice RAC patrol man blew the maxi fuses on my Zed and then left in a hurry :xxx:

never had a problem with the AA they even paid for the repairs once as the made it worse by fiddling.

I've found the AA good.

I've had their pants down a few times.

Best one was I was on a motorbike 300 miles from home, it was late and it started raining.

I knobled the bike so it didn't work, told them the splines had stripped on the shaft and they relayed me all the way home. Had them fix mates cars etc etc.
