Guys I am about to order some plates from fancyplates but after using search i have discovered that there are at least three diffrent plate sizes claimed for an import Z.

So what IS the definitive size I should be ordering for the rectangular front plate and "square" rear?

I am quite keen on getting the 3/4 size front btw.

Cheers for your help.

order the largest (4x4 I think). Then measure your apperture and get it trimmed to that size.

I make plates.

There is no definite standard size for a Jap import.

Most imports will use rear 13"x7".This fills the gap nicely.

I have supplied several Z owners with rear 12"x6" and they have been delighted with that size.

Any smaller you start showing the gaps behing the rear plate.

Fronts can be UK standard if you want - most imports have a large enough area to accomodate this.

For those imports that have a specific gap, it is generally the same a s the rear - either 13"x7" or 12"x6". Got to measure to be sure.

In all cases measure the gap to ensure your plate will fit in the gap that your car has.

Fronts present a challenge to the owner - lots of folks want smaller plates, with the number plate maker up against being limited to the range of size templates he has in stock.

Most makers cannot cut a plate to a custom size.

Guess who can and will cut to any size?

Yup. Me.

Just supplied a front which is 39cmx8cm.

ps - standard UK squarish plate is too big, standard motorbike plate is too small

Cheers John - V Helpful Post. I have got down to measuring it - the rear plate is the problem approx 35cm by 15 cm. I have got a local place to cut a plate dowen to size but it looks a bit illegal as the characters hardly have any spacing between them!

Im gonna see how long I can get away with it though now that i have a car i can outrunthe cops with lol.

so what is the law on front plates as my new bumper has nowhere flat to put a 'normal size' plate and does anyone know what angle they have to be at?

I took delivery today of my new plates from fancy plates, I ordered a two line rear and single line front based on the UK standards for motorbikes, as this is allowed for imports where its construction/design doesn’t allow for standard sized plate.

End result, the rear plate fits perfectly into the hinged carrier, making fitting simple, and the front doesn’t restrict air intake to the all important engine and gearbox oil radiators.

I didn’t specify the final size of the plate, instead asked fancy plates to make them to comply with the UK standard (letter size, spacing, border etc)
