May be a silly question really but the rear hub nut needs to be removed -

Car on axel stands one wheels off

If I chock the other wheel and undo nut could this possibly damage the diff?

I had myself one notch up from being a novice but now I put myself back down to novice status :o

I had to do this on my 90 TT auto, used a big scaffold extention bar to crack the nut. didn't do any damage to mine.

Well it did'nt work (one wheel turned the other chocked one stayed still)had to use the old methood of crowbar inbetween wheel studs and big bar.

Stick the car in 5th gear, or is it an auto?

Or the quick way*, have the car running off the ground, stick your socket/ratchet/extension on the hub nut wedged against the ground, engage 1st gear and floor it :D

*don't do this
