*Warning* - Don't buy anything from user 'gixxar'

As you know, I purchased a replacement engine for my dead zed. Said engine was for sale on here by above user who not only claimed that this engine was a low mileage engine, but also that it was 100%.

After seeing the engine also for sale on ebay, I thought it would be a decent one. Being a long standing forum member, I trusted his judgment and bid against the engine and won.

I guess in my naivety, I was wrong to do this, but because the user had been a forum member/subscriber for such a long time I thought I was safe.

Wrong. After collecting engine in the dark, myself and Jason took it back to his to thoroughly inspected it about 3 weeks later when both of us had the time.

After inspection, we came to the following conclusions. The engine was in a poor state and was not the same engine as advertised ref. pic which showed a very clean engine not sat on a subframe with cam covers. The engine I had infact got, had its cam belt covers missing, not an issue but was quite obvious this was not the same engine as the photo indicated. A subframe and steering rack were also attached, again, this was not on the photo and quite why someone would put one back on to an engine is beyond me.

To add to this, a compression test was done and was found that both rear cylinders were totally shot. Below 50PSi pressure in each. The dip stick top was not there, in its place was a piece if hose pipe and a jubilee clip. A spark plug was also missing so one cylinder was also exposed to the elements.

Now the little things I can kinda put behind me as I was mainly interested in an engine that was supposed to be 100%.

When questioning the user in a nice friendly and civil matter via PM asking that some recompense be due, I received no response. A second message was sent about 3 days later requesting, again politely for a response to the previous polite message. Still nothing. I seeked advise from Mac who requested I pass on his details to him and yet still nothing from user gixxar aka Lee Paulton. I had also been copying in Mac on correspondence so that nothing was untoward.

Pretty disgusted that a forum subscriber can be so ignorant to what is quite a serious matter. Member has not offered an explanation in any shape or form, let alone a part/full-refund. I am now £400 out of pocket and very angry about this.

So just a warning people, do not buy from mentioned user. Can not be trusted.

Legally the product you recieve has to be an accurate representation of the product you buy.

If it's not then you are entitled to every penny back.

Let him know this and give him the opportunity to refund you first.

£400 for a complete engine - sorry to say it but you should have seen that one coming a mile off!!!

Word of advice never buy an engine from anyone unless you have someone check it over first, that goes for turbo's as well.

The price is not the issue. Goods sold not as advertised is. If you're selling an engine in "excellent condition" then no matter what the sale price (£400 or £4000) it should be in excellent condition. Otherwise you're misrepresenting the goods you're selling, or in more common parlance, lying your arse off.

No doubt Si's made some mistakes in buying this the way he did, because you (unfortunately) for the most part can't afford to just trust people, but if everything is as Si has described, it's the seller who's in the wrong here IMHO.

Ripping each other off, for money,,,what happened to principles, respect and honesty???

I find it most sad......

I for one have always found club members to be very honest. As proven at JAE when I was having abit of a lay down and me teeth fell out LOL :D Unbi known to me at the time, they were dutyfully shook out and replaced in me gob.Now thats honesty, could have been put on FleaBay for awsome amounts.....Vinz

Sorry mate, i have to disagree, ive seen the pictures of what they did with your teeth before they replaced them

eeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

How did you pay Si? If it was PayPal you should have some comeback.

Its disgraceful that any member on here will rip off a fellow member knowing full well that they will be trusted because of that fact. I will trust most members on here but if I get ripped off because I trusted them then they will face the consequences for what they did as should anyone abusing the Privilege of membership of this club. Its been said over and over again and if we aint careful I can see the commitee banning the sale of items between members? Rightly so too if this shit carries on.

Its a sad world when TRUST AND HONESTY have gone !!!

Does anybody know this clown? Any chance of getting the money back?

Ban his dumb ass I reckon....

I still stand by my comments, £400 is cheap for a 100% engine. The item was purchased from ebay, as far as I understand things, is there no comeback that way?

But it still does not matter whether it was £400 or £4000 it's the fact it was advertised as been in excellent running condition :headvswal :headvswal

Do you also think that £400 is cheap for a dead engine???

Si,what was the history of the engine, or rather what did he tell you?

A very low mileage engine in perfect order.

its really annoying when that happens... i had a similar experience buying a vectra off ebay... got it for 600 quid and it was described in excellent condition... got 50 miles down the road and the head blew... on closer inspection by a mechanic one of the water hoses had a hole in that was covered in gaffer tape...

Ebay were no help at all... they basically said tough as i paid with cash...

I agree if you advertise something and describe it acuratly and use photos, and they then send you something completely different the price is completely irrelevant. its been represented incorrectly simple. There is no justification by saying the price is way to cheap

Why did he say it had been removed from the old car though Si?

fine in theory m8, but who decides who is telling porkies?

as Funky said it was 3 weeks before he managed to test the engine

we have seen things where one member says this the other says that

so that would mean the club would have to decide who is right:(

as deve8uk says its a matter of trust and doing the relevant checks before parting with hard earned (slightly hard with an engine, so you have to rely on others honesty)

Sorry to hear that Si just let a good engine go cheap to a mate of mine. should of checked it straight away. I wouldnt believe you after 3 weeks. Have a good birthday though.

Regardless of what has happened now, the user STILL hasn't got the backbone to reply to my PMs.

A complete waste of space.

Have you got his number ? You know where he lives so just go and ask him. To be honest there is alot of people out there and on here that take advantage and take things etc. Many you know. Thing is we all get stung at one point or another but we have to swallow it and move on. surely you could get money back by selling heads, plenum, starter etc

Si, The thread is now toooo long to read, but I know from Jaz that the engine you bought is ****ed. If it was sold as being in 'good condition' and it turned out not to be, and you can prove the seller described it as thus, and if you have his address, write to him and state that you will give him 7 days to get in touch with you to discuss it, after which you will issue a County Court Summons against him for reimbursement. That will most certainly get a response from him, and no magistrate would let him get away with it.

How do I go about issuing a county court summons then?

Thanks Dave.

I've posted gixxar a link to this thread, I'm sure he's seen it but I can bet he probably will not respond to it.

Then on he's head be it Si.

Its got to stop. All this being ripped off by other members and then posted on an open forum it dont do our reputation any good as a club does it? I aint saying that it shouldnt be posted I'm saying if it happens then the culprit should be named and shamed. If he/she wants to defend themselves then OK. But I think this should all be done in the members section to be honest?

All IMO of course.
