*Warning* - Don't buy anything from user 'gixxar'

As you know, I purchased a replacement engine for my dead zed. Said engine was for sale on here by above user who not only claimed that this engine was a low mileage engine, but also that it was 100%.

After seeing the engine also for sale on ebay, I thought it would be a decent one. Being a long standing forum member, I trusted his judgment and bid against the engine and won.

I guess in my naivety, I was wrong to do this, but because the user had been a forum member/subscriber for such a long time I thought I was safe.

Wrong. After collecting engine in the dark, myself and Jason took it back to his to thoroughly inspected it about 3 weeks later when both of us had the time.

After inspection, we came to the following conclusions. The engine was in a poor state and was not the same engine as advertised ref. pic which showed a very clean engine not sat on a subframe with cam covers. The engine I had infact got, had its cam belt covers missing, not an issue but was quite obvious this was not the same engine as the photo indicated. A subframe and steering rack were also attached, again, this was not on the photo and quite why someone would put one back on to an engine is beyond me.

To add to this, a compression test was done and was found that both rear cylinders were totally shot. Below 50PSi pressure in each. The dip stick top was not there, in its place was a piece if hose pipe and a jubilee clip. A spark plug was also missing so one cylinder was also exposed to the elements.

Now the little things I can kinda put behind me as I was mainly interested in an engine that was supposed to be 100%.

When questioning the user in a nice friendly and civil matter via PM asking that some recompense be due, I received no response. A second message was sent about 3 days later requesting, again politely for a response to the previous polite message. Still nothing. I seeked advise from Mac who requested I pass on his details to him and yet still nothing from user gixxar aka Lee Paulton. I had also been copying in Mac on correspondence so that nothing was untoward.

Pretty disgusted that a forum subscriber can be so ignorant to what is quite a serious matter. Member has not offered an explanation in any shape or form, let alone a part/full-refund. I am now £400 out of pocket and very angry about this.

So just a warning people, do not buy from mentioned user. Can not be trusted.

£400 for a complete engine - sorry to say it but you should have seen that one coming a mile off!!!

Word of advice never buy an engine from anyone unless you have someone check it over first, that goes for turbo's as well.

wow sorry to hear that Si, its a shame that there are such dishonest people out there, and shocking that they are right here on the forum.

All the risks need to be considered when purchasing, even if it's from here, you should know who you can trust. Sorry to hear that.

So does that go for everyone buying things from forum members? Just as well do away with selling anything mechanical on here then. The engine ended up on ebay, which is the reason it went for the price it did. The engine was personally garunteed as beng 100%.

At the end of the day its not to do with that. The engine was for sale on here, so does this mean we cant trust anyone on here?

2nd hand bare zed engines dont go for an afull lot more from AndyZ for example.

Yet again someone has been ripped off by a member of our club. This infuriates me at how low and deceitful some people are, how do they sleep at night?

That is the shits Si.

Bottom line here is that someone has sold you something far from what was advertised, irrespective of wether it's a good price or not!

In hindsight, yes you should have checked it but thats not the point, we all put a bit too much trust in people sometimes!!

Hopefully you can get this resolved. I know what I would do but thats highly illegal :D

Andy

what a t0sser! take the block back round there and drop it on his car from a great height, and say "you can have the fooker back!" drop it from high enough, your bound to do 400 of damage! he he!

thats disgusting we should be helping each other keep these cars in a good condition not ripping other members off unless some sort of refund is organised a ban should be in order IMO

funny i'm selling my engine at the mo.

si after reading your second engine was bolixed i decided to test mine as i'm not the type to $hit on another member.

turn's out i done the test wrong.

so i'm doing the test again on another zed to get the results hot and cold.

sorry to see this has happened t you.

ffs, sorry to hear that bloke.

That is a real shit Si.

It is terrible to think that someone who belongs to this community would do that to a fellow member or anyone TBH.

Gutted for you and I hope you get some sort of recompense from the fella who stiffed you, probably wont happen though.

Chris

prehaps its time to operate a zero tolerance approach when it comes to things like this.

no more pm after pm, you get one pm, if you dont respond your named and shamed period.

i have to say this is why i make all my details fully known when i deal with any member here, so they have every means of getting in touch with me, from my mobile, home addy to my office number!!

and if need be invite them here to collect and test before taking the items away.

Sorry to here this bud, I know exactly how you feel as it was not long ago something similiar happened to me with some alloys.

Here is an idea.

Have the Forum set up an account. For all major transactions(say over £200) the money goes into the account and is not relesed until the purchaser is satisfied. For the piece of mind the Forum gets 5% of the purchase value or a maximum of £20.

Just a thought

one of the fundamental issues of joineing a club and buying from club members is that we are here to help out, not get one over.

unfortunaltly from personal experiance I have found that its better to take every transaction as you would from a guy in the street and do the relevant checks acordingly.

shame it has to be like this.

fine in theory m8, but who decides who is telling porkies?

as Funky said it was 3 weeks before he managed to test the engine

we have seen things where one member says this the other says that

so that would mean the club would have to decide who is right:(

as deve8uk says its a matter of trust and doing the relevant checks before parting with hard earned (slightly hard with an engine, so you have to rely on others honesty)

where did all those comments just go????

I deleted them very rude IMHO

Hmm its a pity but it does seem to happen a lot as some people do not have the same moral standards when it comes to MONEY being in a club makes no diffrence to some people. :(

Still if it where me i would take the engine back in small pieces and post it through his letter box piece by piece. including the oil
