what is the proper function of the hold button ......... what was it put there to do coz ive been usin it as an economy button lol :confused:

hold button starts from second gear for slippy weather plus it dosnt allow kick down

you should be usin auto with overdrive on for economy

In the old days overdrive was generally for motorway/cruising, but as the light indicates ‘overdrive off’ this sort of implies that with the Z you can happy drive from standstill to whatever with overdrive on, is this the case? I guess that a user manual would be helpful.

Ye overdrive just adds the 4th gear if it needs to. You dont have to take it off to run around town, I never do. TBH I hardly even use 3rd. The only time I do is when I put the footdown. Cos on normal driving it goes, 1st, 2nd but when I change to 3rd it only stays in for 1 second or so then just drops into 45th. But that is driving like a granny though around town :D

Also, at the time when the Z32 was first brought out the top of the range autoboxes capable of handling this kind of power were only 3 speeds. I think the latest Lexus LS will have a 8 speed autobox ... how technology progresses!

Its 3 gears and an overdrive. But unless there is some fancy answer. Yes it is just 4 gears

Its tucked up inthe right hand corner of the gearshift panel look at the picture.

on my zed its always in overdrive coz if its not when it drops into 3rd from 2nd its like sitting in a jet and really accelerates!!!!! also its sounds like it changes 5 times? 1,2,3,4 then it drops revs again into a sort of fifth? also the hold button on mine just holds in it that particular gear and wont allow it to change at all?so if im in say 2nd it will indefinatly stay in 2nd til its turned off again?

hmmm i think im only gonna use it when its really wet or if fuel is minimum coz at the end of the day whats the point in havin such a car if its just ideling away all the time lol

that so called other gear is the torqe converter "locking up" at around 80km

its strange though coz i no a bit about normal gearboxs all be it on the truck side of things and over drive is the nxt gear on from direct drive...................
