before i removed my engine i done a compresion test on in.

i've not heard anything from the member who was going to buy it so might end up putting it on ebay. (this is not going to plan. got loads to sell as well)

the engine used to pull really strong to.

can someone confirm the results as good or bad.

dsr 130 psi ..... psr 120 psi

dsc 125 psi ..... psc 125 psi

dsf 130 psi ..... psf 125 psi

any advice would be greatfull.

forgot to mention the test was done from cold, with all the plugs out.

Looks on the low side to me, but at least all the readings are very similar. Could you try a 'wet' test as well ?

I thought the Same Mate they are low! I am sure they should be reading above 145 Psi minimum?

bolt the gearbox back to the engine and power the starter with a battery.

At Least 150 but you should get higher! The Nissan Manual states Minimum of 142 pounds and 170-180 pounds normal;)

if you get low compression would the car still pull properly?

funki si had this problem.

it still drove nice but his compretion was even lower.

i wish i had left it in till i blew the shit out of it now. :headvswal

Need a new set of piston rings then! Unless the pistons are worn too.Might as well check your Cylinder bore's too! and big ends and main bearing's while the Engines out.

Would be worth it if your doing it yourself even if you sell it after the work!:)

i'm in two minds, as i dont need the engine you see, the money was going towards a v8.

so this is set back.

The problem being that nothing is selling at the minute, i've had my intercoolers for sale, for ages, so i don't realy want to spend money on this engine for it to sit in my garage. if you know what i meen.

z master do you know what a recon engine goes for????

Ask Ryan i have never bought a Recon Z32 Engine i normally rebuild mine But i'd imagine at a guess complete ie: not just a short block!Around the £800-£1200 and thats at a good Guess! Second hand Used without acc's £500+ Japanese Engines are always going to be very Expensive to Buy New,Reconditioned or Used.

Personally if you have it out and mounted on an engine Stand you might as well Rebuild it if you know what your doing and have the tools for the job! or the Time.

Even if you plan not to keep it!

If i had a spare engine i'd do the same and maybe keep it just in Case! These aint cheap cars when they go wrong and not everyone is a Mechanic or has Mechanical knowlege like some of us.

I wouldn't like to guess how much it would cost to run these cars if i had to take it to a Garage due to not having any mechanical knowlege.

They are worth their weight in Gold. ;)

i'm thinking of getting a engine stand, and having a tinker.

i have enough tools to do the job, so i might be in touch if i get stuck. lol

thanks for your help.

You Might be getting ahead of yourself here, the compression test should be done with a warm engine.

When an engine heats up the crown of the piston and rings expand and could give you a higher compression reading!

mark the problem i have now is the engine is out, so i have no way of running it to get the reading. any ideas.

i've spoke to my mechanic who pulled the engine and he thought i was taking the pi$$ when i told him it was fooked,(he used to drive it a lot) but like i said the engine used to pull like a train, and a few day's b4 i took her off the road it even showed a supra tt it's heals.

i've spoke to graham the lad who was going to buy it off me and he could'nt understand why it ran so smooth if it was bolixed

or a new engine :D

Yeah, that doesn't always solve the problem. I bought another one from a forum member and it's shafted and I've lost a load of money as he can't even be arsed to reply to my PMs.

rebuilds all the way. as funkysi says you dont know what condition the engine is in
