In the 'Masterclass' article on page 92-95 of the April '06 JTuner mag, there is an interview with Clive Seddon of RC Developments, Evo specialists. On page 95 Clive is asked what his least favourite Japanese car is, and why, and he responds:-

 

"The Nissan 300ZX. It's atrocious in every way: looks, engine, everything. I won't accept one in the workshop!"

 

And to make matters worse, JTuner have chosen to use this quote as a large text caption on page 94's main picture!! I know it's only one man's opinion - which he is entitled to, even though he's wrong (obviously ;)) - but I find it a little unfair for a supposedly unbiased publication to highlight this derogatory comment.

Mate I speak from experience, I've probably owned a Z longer than you have so wind it in!

 

The fact that I also have experience of owning a tonne of Toyota's over the years aswell means that I am more than qualified to comment and compare. I currently own a 300ZX Twin Turbo (go look in the Rides section under Timmy Turbo), an MR2 Turbo and a Toyota Hilux Surf. In the past I've owned a Mk III Toyota Supra Turbo, a Toyota Celica Supra 2.8injection aswell. ;)

sure we all love our cars and defend them but not to the extremes some of you go to, one guy has slatted the zed, big deal GET OVER IT I mean you never slate any other marks off do you....Supra's or poopra's as you tend to call them oh and GTO's come in for it at least once a week and yet as soon as somebody says something derogatory about the mighty Zed all hell break loose come on get a life

 

PS the reason I pop in here is because I nearly bought a manual 300 zx TT and thought that on the whole you were a sound bunch of guys, but I also must say that the reason that I didn't buy a Zed in the end was 1. the handling wasn't what I expected or hoped for..... 2. and the main reason, it is a very difficult car to work on.

The reason its pi55ed people off, is becuase its a hugely public slating. Big difference between slating cars of on a forum, and in a national publication.

My grievance was with the magazine in question, not the tuner that made the original comment. Yeh, it 'darkened my mood' so to speak, but opinions cannot be chastised, I know that. I merely resent the fact the JTuner decided to splash this opinion in large text across a whole page as a caption to a picture.

 

Sure, this might serve to help the 300zx brand, as the more gullible faithful followers of the magazines might leave them alone, thus letting us true 300zx enthusiasts purchase them all and keep them in good nick rather than abusing them.

 

Howeverm, obviously it's gonna rile this place - 'cos we love our machines and don't want to hear negative things about them.

Can't be arsed reading all 7 previous pages, and I do take it a little personally that someone would say something so dumb. I mean after all if you could agree with any of this opinionated pilock's um...err... opinions, then the mass majority would disagree on at least the topic of the Zed's looks: It is simply one of the most stunning and original designs to come out of Japan. But... that was a dumb-ass loaded question for the pencil pushers of that mag to ask in the first place. If you have a publication and you ask any interviewee their least favourite anything, their answer is going to offend a lot of people!

i think i'm the only one who is happy about that magazine article,i'm sick to the back teeth of these people buying a zed for 2k and then slating them because they bought a banger,the zed has reached the age(as do any cars)where they are cheap to buy and as usual the wannabe supercar owners come along who cant afford(or dont want to pay for)simple maintenance jobs,so in turn slate the car when it breaks.
