Hi, I finally picked up a z after 3 years or so of thinking about it. drove it down to surrey from Edinburgh yesterday. 450miles no probs(pretty good fuel consumption too!). went for a drive today. Had half a tank of BP ultimate in it, and filled it up with optimax. about 15 miles later lost power for a second or so, then it conked out competeley about a mile or so later. Now when I try to strat it, almost catches, rumbles a bit then dies. No idiot lights or anything.

Any ideas? things to check? have looked at connections etc under the bonnet, but all looks ok.

Any advice would be much appreciated, because it's parked in a local car park at the moment!

BTW, when it was working, what a car! so much fun

The fuel mix wont be the problem, you might want to check out the fuel lines and the pump as well,

Did it feel like it was using all 6 cyls if not then you might want to check the PTU connections and the coil pack connections too, seems a lot but they are all easy to find.

By the way glad you found one ;)

Hi sgt. Good luck with your car, BTW. The missus wouldn't let me spend that much on a z!

Yep felt like all6 were working. Didn't think it would be the mix, but seemed a bit strange..

With regards to the fuel lines and pump, is there an easy way of "checking" them? There was a large smell of petrol after it died the first time, so thought I might have flooded it. but left it to test for 5 mins, tried again(and again) and no good..

Cheers Legrath. Will try an ECU check.

Good luck with your new website/carputers etc. Any idea when your website will be up and running? may well be a customer...

IF i leave the wire on for more than 3 secs, will it damage anything?

You sure you never put diesel in? I know it sounds stupid and I am sure you aint but its an easy mistake and you wouldnt be the first? :slap: Just sounds funny that everything was good until you put Optimax in?

Hmm. I thought about that, and checked the garage where I bought it from. I remember the price I paid for optimax(94.9p), and it seemed to be right. Shell don't sell optimax diesel do they? Is there any way of checking(smell or whatever). It's possible that I ddi, cos it was very early this am..

I was going to say the same. Someone posted a week or so ago that they made the same mistake because of the names of the fuels.

Hope its nothing serious. Were abouts in Surrey, any where near Croydon?

It's probably too far for them to come(about 50mls). Although when it's running again, thats no problem :)

girlfriend does, but she's in crewe at the moment :slap: . Have found that other post, and it looks like(if thats what ive done), a flush is required. I'm assuming that and local garage should be able to do that..?

welcome haxman

did you give it any throttle while trying to restart the fooker??????

flooded mine after 2 days (they don't need any throttle to start) stank of petrol and wouldn't fire up. if so try removing fuel pump fuse (box at back of engine bay) turn over a couple of times then replace fuse and try again hopefully having burnt off any fuel left hanging around, worked on mine bud, i know fook all about motors but it's easy to do and worth a try. by the way mine started with a huge backfire but then ran fine after this.

good luck

Hmm. Thats the thing. don't know that i did. don't think so, but i've gotta take it into account. Is there any way of checking?(other than draining the tank...)
