Tried to fit this today and the bypass tube will not fit. This is a K'reg UK car and has metal piping to the hicas unit. Any ideas what i can do? There is a PIRTEK branch near me so i could get something made up. Where is the best place to bypass? at the unit or at the pump?

If anyone has eliminated a UK hicas, then any info would be appreciated.

Also been under the car whilst someone is rocking the wheel and it is definately the hicas unit that is allowing the movement.

MOT due in 2 weeks

the kit should have come with some kind of system to re route the power steering fluid back to the front unless you completly get rid of it like me :)

Completely getting rid is an option. What's involved?

well lock it up with the bar/kit or if you want to completly want to rid yourself of it all then you need to block up the power steering pump and power steering pot from the hicas and then just remove all the pumps (one at the front, one at the back)

bring your car up and i can help you if you want bud ;)

Have you ever changed the TT pump for an N/A Kirbz ? just wondered if it was a straight forward job.

cheers

no not thought of that but good thinking ;)

in fact what we did was change a few of the connectors over and re-route the hicas pump connection back to the powersteering pump to make it a complete system :)

Doh, i was hoping you had, cos am in your area Thursday morning and was gonna pop by and ask yer how to do it :p

to be honest we originally blocked the power steering pot and was going to get a bolt to block up the pump but we took the pipe which went from the hicas pump to the powersteering pump and modified to to fit onto the steering pot :) wasnt hard

feel free to call in paul if you are pm me and i will give you my address

apparently not!!! according to john dixon - he did it and said he had to fabricate a new bracket or something. you can bypass the hicas at the pump and reservoir tho.

do a search on hicas and posts by john dixon.

There are a few options:

1) NA Pump: junk the lot, solenoid, safety valve all pipework. Total PITA to remove pipework and fit NA pump

2) Leave existing pump in place, but loop feed to soleniod back to tank. Can then remove solenoid, safety valve and pipework if desired.

2) Leave existing pump in place, but remove veins from back impeller. As above but more hassle and no real advantage. Slight reduction in parasitic losses due to not circulating fluid (negligable).

3) loop pipes under rear of car. Leave everything else as it is.

I'd go for option 2, then remove the soleniod and rubber hoses, leave the metal pipes under the car.

Removing it makes the back much more predictable, not more jumpy unless something is not fitted properly.
