Hi all,

I am generally OK with electricals, and have fitted many extra toys tomy other car, (tv,DVD, Xbox, Fridge, sat nav etc etc) but have come accross a sticking point on the Zed.

In order to fill the spare DIN, I decided to go with an motorised in dash screen/TV. I have got power to everything and have a lovely picture, but I'll be dammed if I can get any sound to work!!!!!

My initial plan was to wire the output from the DVD player direct to the car speakers. Not only did that not work, but it also cut out all sound from the stereo. I then connected the DVD output to the monitor and the monitor out put to the speakers and had the same problem. My final (and desperate) attempt was to connect the DVD to the stereo (Alpine) but that did nothing.

I am now assuming theproblem is that neither the DVD or the TV have a built in amp (which is why I tried running them via the stereo) but am not sure. Any advice/ideas are more than welcome.

Thanks

Helen and Ian

does the head unit have aux input mate?

No, just the cable for the cd changer and one red and one white, which are unmarked, but are what I tried connecting to earlier.

i dont think it will work then mate

Figured!!!!

i think you will have to get a pair of RCA splitters and put them on the amp and then wire both dvd and stero into the amp and then just turn one off when your not using it so their is only 1 signal being recived from the amp. see attached jpeg

Couldn't I get a seperate amp just for the DVD and leave the stereo as is??????

but then wouldnt have to wire all your speakers into both amps? i think getting hte splitters is the easiest option just mute the stero when your watching the dvd and when you want the stero back mute the dvd.

getting another amp seems a very expensive option and very overly complicated buddy

The amp for the stereo is not a separate unit, it is built into the head unit,so I have to buy a seperate one anyway, don't I??

I would NOT wire it this way.

As the head unit and dvd player are not designed to have a signal being fed in to it through an output.

What you can do is have a switching unit that will take the 2 inputs and allows the output to be switched between them

sounds like you only have RCA output.. check your headunit .. it should have an AUX in .. if not you can buy an FM modulator that takes RCA out and then turns it into a radio frequency that u can pick up on your headunit radio

John.. hope ive made that sound simple enough ... PM me if you get stuck bud

Thinking about fitting a 2 channel amp, and then connecting the dvds audio output straight to it and then hiding two speakers connected to the amp somewhere in the car. These speakers would be used exclusively for the DVD players use. Leaving the stereo setup as is and using the cars standard speakers exclusively.

Seems a bit scrapy to me, but what do you guys think about this idea?? Would powering up the DVD turn on the amp, or would it need a on/off switch?? Any good places to hide the speakers??

Gutted that the stereo does not have an input. Would replace it but the b***** cost six hundered pounds!!

Cheers guys for the interest and advice :)

Alpine 6 disc changer, mistaken on the price. It was 400 (just checked the reciept that came with the car).

If it`s an Alpine head unit then you can get an Alpine Interface unit that will allow you to switch the audio input from your changer to any Aux input. I`ll get a part number for you tomorrow.

AWESOME BOB.

Many Thanks, I look forward to hearing from you!!

Im in the same position about to attempt to install DVD/TV and CD player. 2 seperate dins. Need to find a blanking plate for the bottom (larger) gap. Any ideas where ill get one? trawled ebay to no avail lol

Forgive me gentlemen but I'd the same problem in my motorhome and had to buy a new FM modulator. It's wired in the ariel and switched so that when on it picks up the sound for the TV and plays it through the CD/radio/DVD player.

Good luck

Jack
