Try this mate...

If your mileage is still clocking up but your speedo head isn't working then the chances are the fault is in your dash, as the speed signal is getting to your dash. If they both don't work at the same time then it is LESS likely to be the dash. Do you have a KPH-MPH converter, ie you have a J spec. Check all the wires around this.

If this is still not the problem check all the connections are clean and making good contact, especially the one on the speed sensor as it will be covered in crap at this time of year...

Hope this helps...

are they the original dials? cos when i changed mine, i shoved the needle too far in(or not far enough, cant remember) and it wouldnt go around properly.

if not could you have bought a dodgy speed sensor cos i think the chimes the speed delimiter.

just a thought

thanks lads the clocks i put in are british clocks ,reading mph. my car is an import on a g reg . the clocks were working fine when they came from another car. the connections underneath are clean. can i disconnect the sensor to see if its giving a reading. am i right thinking the sensor when in drive sends a signal to the clocks and not the clocks to the sensor. cheers gary.

Yeah the speed sensor gives a signal, don't know if the zeds give a pulse (which increases with speed) or a voltage (which ingreases with spead), but both could be checked with a decent meter

However you would have to attach some cable to the sensor and run it into the car to check (or jack up the back wheels and do it stationary - but I would not fancy doing that :nono: )
