Hi Guys,

As yet I am not a Zed owner (please don't throw things)... but plan to buy one as a second/project come weekend car.

I await the passing of three things...

1. My 25th Birthday (Mucho insurance savings)

2. Promotion at work... so i can afford it basically!

3. Accommodation for both me and the Zed... I.e. a house with a garage.

So I am probably looking at just under 12 months, but what this does give me is plenty of time to plan what car I buy, what mods I want, the overall look I want to achieve and finally... how much it is all going to cost.

I was wondering whether anyone had a list of the stock models and their specifications? I am aware that there is the 2+2 (which is presumeably the LWB) and the two seater (Again I'm guessing the SWB), with the Z32 3.0 V6 either normally aspirated or turbo charged, however I have also seen TT next to a few model descriptions and was wondering what the diffrence is? Also, what is better, import or UK spec?

And finally, although I doubt it makes a whole lot of difference, what's better in terms of handling? The LWB or the SWB?

In the mean time I must be content with my current motor, a Vaux Vectra. Although it's not all bad... it is a 2.5 V6, so i do get the odd... from 325 drivers when they can't get me out of their rear view.

Your right on the LWB and SWB, TT can meen targa top and twin turbo and there may be a bit of discussion over handling.

Word of advice, buy one that has been already done, it will work out cheeper

even if you spend 10k.

Belive me, I know

We argue alot about it but probably the most desirable car would be a SWB, metal top (slick top), twin turbo, manual. (1999 onwards if you could get it, which you probably can't). Or even the 2000 Version R.

Whatever you do, whatever spec you go for, get a good one. You're in a good position to make that happen.

TT = Twin Turbo...although some dealers refer to it as Targa tops

UK (90-94)

TT LWB

Japan (89-2000)

TT LWB

TT SWB

TT SWB Slicktop(hard roof)

NA LWB

NA SWB

NA SWB Slicktop(hard roof)

NA Convertable

Manual & Auto available for both

Desirablity its down to your preferences, not down to rareity ;)

Twin turbo manual for me but if your useing it as an every day car maybe better off getting an N/A, but thats just my opinion.

Oh and remember RED ones are the fastest.

Get a good one that has bags of history and has had lots of work already done to it. Too many people lately are buying cheap ones for £2500-£3000 and then having to spend that again putting them right. A manual twin turbo is the way forward!

TT - Twin Turbo/Targa Top... Doh! :slap:

Wow guys, thanks for all the advice. DGM that site was well detailed - the spec list over the years was particulalry useful.

But I'm afraid I am going to have to side with Komare on the Black/Red Debate. I have visions of a stealth street racer look, so a nice pearl black would be the colour of choice.

However, having seen JASON CARROWs Kandy Apple Blue Zed in the rides section, I can't help but think some Kandy apple paint would really make it stand out... in which case I could definately be tempted by a deep red.

Decisions, Decisions!

With regard to buying the car already modding and saving a wedge... i agree that this is probably the most sensible thing to do - but i do want to stamp my own mark on the car, making it uniquely mine, rather than just bombing round in someone elses ride. So I will proably get a Zed with a sound engine and plenty of history, that is part/fully modded, but with a fairly standard exterior and interior, thus giving me room to make my mark.

I agree the an NA z32 would be the sensible option... but who buys a zed to be sensible :p So twin turbo it is... it will be a weekend car after all.

Targa of Slick Top? Well against Targa is the fact that it is bound to reduce the rigidity of the chassis affecting the handling (although the cross bar would reduce this in comparison to the straight convertable). Also I imagine that insurance is probably more on a Targa as it would provide another point of access to the car for potential TWOCers, where as a roof... well... doesn't. But I still can't help imagining cruising about town in the summer with the Targa fully open.... what to do!

My final desired model will come soon...

The Slicktop is very very rare (and only available in SWB), insurers wont recognise the difference in there model lists and the targa's offer same security as regular roof with a sunroof. (with roof in place its just metal with reinforced glass in centre).

Point well made.

Targa top (and summer cruising it is then!)

i used to have a vectra v6 before my zed..the most reliable car i ever ever owned, really miss her..be prepared to spend a bloody fortune on a zed to keep it going.

ie three years of thrashing in a v6 vectra = one new exhaust flexi costing £120...........two years of owning a zed = £3000 and STILL not moving correctly.

BUT im still enjoying the zed experience (when it bloody moves)
