I have polished bits in my other cars engine bay, but have noticed that they have began to rust :mad: :mad: :mad:

 

They way I did it was to use very rough paper and then get gradually smoother until I got to a shiny finish.

 

When I was happy with the way it looked, I used heat resistant lacquer to seal them. As they are now looking pretty dire, I am going to do them again, as well as doing a couple of bits on the Z.

 

What I was wondering is, what is the best way to seal these parts after polishing??

 

As stated, last time I used an aerosol lacquer, I am now considering translucent powder coating instead.

 

I know people use autosol for polishing, but does that actually offer any protection when its finished? I thought it was just for the initial polish, but maybe I am wrong. I have noticed quite a few nicely polished engines in the club, so any help or guidance is more than welcome! :bow:

autosol protects too, but any metal will rust except alloys and compounds, hence why most people only ever polish aluminium bits. all i can sugest is actually get it chrome plated, or laquer it with many layers, but needs to be heat resistant laquer in engine.

on a car pretty much nothing.

The Plenum Is Aluminium. And Thats All I Know Apart From Some Of The Calipers.

Most aerosol lacquers are so thin that they end up porous, hence moisture getting in and tarnishing the metal.

2 Pack is the way to go.

test em with a magnet,iff it dont stick its ally

ALSA Corp do a Lacquer especially for this, I think it is called clear 4 chrome.

You could also use Belgom Alu once polished as it keeps them looking shiny for ages.
