Black trim to chrome??

My black reim around the windscreen is falking off...

i have started to pick away at it to reveal the chorme underneath.

It there an easy way of removing it? a solvent or something? the flakey bits come off fine but some is really welded to it...

I would get a new trim kit for it but they cost a fortune...

Any ideas?

Could you not rub them down and spray them with matt black hammerite. I've seen those faided to chrome and it gives the car a very dated feel.

how do i get them off? im only really concerned about the windscreen and targa bits?

i guess i could use a hairdryer...

would i need to put laquer on if i used matt hammerite? spray or brush?

no but as you would be spraying onto chrome you would need to use self etch primer first ,followed by normal primer a quick wet flat back the your top coat

cheers guys... that looks like it will be a nice weekend job for me....

go on the aus 300zx tech site.a guy on there tells you how to remove them with pictures.he covered his using large electrical heat shrink.this can be bought in long rolls.i think wurth sell it.the end result was very pleasing.doing mine the same way soon.

Has anyone removed the roof trims of a slicktop there all one peice ,along the roof and down the screen i was going to remove mine and take them to a body shop bloke i know to get them re painted .there loads of money to buy from nissans thanks taff. :duffer: :duffer: :duffer:

yes matey i did mine and re-painted them..

you need an acid etch primer then a good paint and laquer/sealer

Cheers mate did you break any white clips mine seem fairly loose on the roof section but down the screen seem tight im scared im going to bend them i might get my mate who works for autoglass to help .Il get my mate to paint in the body shop it will be cheaper than me buying the paint and primer thanks taff.

autoglass .

   thats the company that smashed my rear screen when it was removed at the bodyshop, then scratched the bonnet as they refitted all the glass    . No slur intended on your mate though, I am sure hes a lot more professional than the guys from their Ipswich branch.

Sorry to hear that mate , i worked in the windscreen trade when i left school and scrached a new rolls royce with the cutting out tool when training and cut loads of hard headlinings in newish motors when cutting out screens with chesse wire. You have to watch these guys .They should put a cover on the bonnet when fitting a screen.

hi taff nope i just made sure i was careful, best way i found to lift was to put a flat lever into the trim from the roof side not the door side and then carefully prise up, do this by the clips. the ones that go down the windscreen side are shaped like bow's there is a flat section on one side and from there there are to prongs that stick out each way in the shape of a bow, they are quite strong but will bend inwards , so they go straight.

the trim catches over the straight hook on the back and the prongs push on the inside of the trim and also slip inside the inner fold.

if i can find a pic i will post it up.

make sure you dont clean all the rubber off the sides of the trim as thats a sealer!!! you just clean the tops and a small bit on the side about 2mm, if you lose the rubber seaeler strips on the sides you will have to buy new trims im afraid.

Cheers mate ill give it a go soon.By the way are we the only 2 yellow tt slicktops on the board.
