Raleigh Chopper vs. Diamond Back BMX???

Not having owned a Raleigh Chopper but being interested in buying a used Diamond Back BMX I was wondering if anyone had any comments about the difference in performance? biggrin.gif

I know the Chopper has better gearing and the BMX is geared much, much lower but would the Chopper with its high back seat and fat back tyre smoke the BMX off the mark??? biggrin.gif

I know someone who has owned a Diamond Back and says I won't be disappointed with the looks and performance and that the Chopper is well and truly passed its sell-by-date. However I do like the riding position and better comfort of the Chopper...ohhhh I don't know what to do?

Any advice guys would be much appreciated! biggrin.gif

Thanks in advance...

when it was getting near my 14th birthday i was hinting to my parents constantly that i needed a new bike. i thought my dad was great when he finally agreed that i could have one for my birthday.so on the great day i got up raced down stairs and there in wrapping it was. YES the mosy ugly pink thing with coloured strings hanging out the end of the handle bars, f***ing shopping basket on the front and a really ugly girlie frame. i cried andhad atemper tantrum of my life. if i had shown my friends that i would never of had any friends let alone street cred ever again. my nan was staying with us then and she saw my reaction, and when i goy home from school the best gran in the world had bought me a what appeared at the time to be the biggest shiniest chopper in the world. everyone wanted a go. and my younger sister had to ride the pink thing ha ha.

Only one choice in my opinion, it's gotta be the Grifter. Had one for years, fell off walls, went through rivers, ace for playing around on the old lead mines (filled in but f****** steep tracks through it) biggrin.gif. Only problem was we lived on the hill to end all hills. Half way up a mile long 1 in 7 hill; either you're knackered before you gt anywhere or you've got to get back up it to go home. Now the Grifter is fun, but it AINT light. No matter how cool those 3 gears with their coloured dots on a twist-grip handlebar were, there was now way that bike would go up that hill mad.gif.

As for Choppers, look cool but get them on a bumpy dirt track or try to slow down and forget it - you're going over the front. BMXs are OK for stunt stuff but fecking useless for anything else tongue.gif.
