Not sure if any of you remember, I have managed to get a set of split rims from an RX-7 we have here at work. Now I took some photos of them with my phone but the wheels were absolutely filthy and the photos looked dreadful.....

Well, I've got them home now and I've cleaned them up. Other than some minor curbing damage, I am really starting to like them. Kinda considering getting them refurbed and fitting them to the Zed and selling my Rays wheels.

Found some photos. The wheels being Siena Generation 2.

Well I've heard how good this chap who's doing my wheels from another forum I use, so I decided to put my trust in him and drive the 4 hour trip up to Nottingham from Glastonbury.

What a nice guy and got to see first hand how amazing his work is. Met BeeGeeVinz too! Top bloke!

Mark also did a very quick test on the lips of my rims which are mirror polished and he said he was very impressed with the metal which is aircraft grade alloy on these partilcuar rims.

The shine was absolutely fantastic, even for just a short period of time on a small area.

Anyway, I started off by taking all the studs out, this was a bit of a PITA as the studs are recessed behind the centre plate. A neat design, but awful to work with.

You can also see here the inner part of the wheel is pitted. I tried cleaning it up as best I could, but it's going to be painted.

As you can see, the rims have a whole array of curbing marks....plus lots of hairline scratches and cloudyness.

As you can see, the rims have lost quite a bit of their mirror reflection, probably due to the fact that they've been sat by a dock wall on an RX7 for over a year having sea water thrown at them....supprised at their condition bearing in mind as there's bugger all corrosion. I guess that's testiment to the quality of matieral used. Mark rebuilds BBS wheels and says the quality of metal and workmanship on the wheels I brought to him was far superior.

So, I took them Mark's and he did a little tester on one to see what the metal was like. Both of us were quite impressed.

This was done very quickly which is why you can see a few haze marks still there.

I just can't imagine how the wheels will look when finished, they should look amazing if that shine is anything to go by.

Now I really wanted the centres chromed, but the work and cost involved would have just been a nightmare. So have gone for a very very bright and reflective silver which mark has had mixed up. Once sprayed on with loads of lacquer, these should be very very bright.

Will post final pics in a few weeks when I get them back.

Can't wait to see the finished result, they look very good indeed even though it's just a tester section.

Nice choice in the end bud :D

He's working on them now and should have some piccies for me tomorrow.

He's just done these actually. A very tired, yet very rare set of 13" RS wheels...

On the bottom left here.

They've been powder coated in gloss black, the outer rims and faces have been machine ground to remove any markins/pitting.

Then the faces and rims were polished.

Here we go, he started on my wheels today. bugger- the inner and outer rims are/ have been welded together- so alot harder (as in trickier ) to do, oh well.

Firstly,Started to remove the curb markings. then to clean the rest of the wheel up.

All the markings taken out, rubbed down to 2500 wet n dry, then polished

Then Mark thought, what will the inner rim look like polished ????? and how long of course

And this happend , so we spoke on the phone and the inners are being mirror polished too.

Yes, someone on the forum is having them sometime mid-week next week. :)

they look like mine

lookin good bud.

Have you thought about changing the colour of the spokes and keeping the rim polished.

I'm thinking of changing the spokes on my rims to anthacite. I've seen others that have white or gold. Not to everyones taste though.

I tried it with mine on photoshop.

Cheers guys. Whilst I like wheels with anthracite centres I don't think they'd suit my car. I also love the brightness of how my current wheels are and want to keep that look.

Did they come off a RX7 Special limted Edition RZ That a Gen 3. Only reason I ask is because they look like the ones we nearly put on our RX7 Gen 2.

Don't need to. Gonna fit two to mine at the weekend....lol Just to see what they look like. ;)

From what I can ascertain, Siena are actually a division of Yokohama.

Yep the wheel is an Advan Siena style Wheel made fore Yokohama tyres by believe it or not a German Company call Evox Wheels

I toyed with Idea of doing a group by as I could get them for around £1000 a set for 18" and 19" with 8.5 front and 11 rears. Anyway thats for another time.

I want to get the splitrims on my wifes car refurbed vbgarage.php?do=getimage&id=3538

and wondered if you have the guys number etc

Yup, they did look pretty peachy. They were a lovely wheel, but were a mission to keep clean and polished, even though I did keep it garaged and only drove it in the summer in dry weather! LOL They just didn't quite have the look I wanted, but I guess I had them on there for a good 4 or 5 years.
