Ok, so the engine I'm collecting next week is a low mileage example from an Auto TT.

From what I know, the cams are slightly different giving the engine a slightly different powerband to compensate for the different transmissions.

What other differences are there and what gains would I notice? Are the power figures much different?

Nissan UK Brochure gave Auto power figure of 263bhp. But how much of the power drop is due to the smaller auto tubs or the different cams is anyones guess.

I'm putting the tubs in from my Manual...which is a manual....

So will it actually be slower?????????

Marginally perhaps...but 20hp is'nt that significant considering the total output, and even less significant with a boost increase and 300hp+

Shame, I always thought the Auto engines had a bit more power to compensate for the extra transmission losses. Maybe the engine does develop more power but looses more through the gearbox.

Just something I thought I read....that the auto engine into a manual makes a slight bit of difference over standard.

What it does have is a heap more torque in the midrange, but a little power is sacrificed at the top end. Smaller turbos spin up faster etc.

Oh right, so putting my Manual turbos on it will in effect put it almost back to how it is in a TT anyway.

should do.

Im sure i read somewhere that its in the autobox where it loses the power so nissan changed things to give the auto more torque and make it just as fast as a manual.

Pretty much, although I believe the cams are slightly different too.

id have thought the auto with all the bits of a manual would be better

Change the Cams!!

Well that is basically what people have when they convert from auto to manual. Top end power is only used occasionally, mid-range torque is what you use every day. I'm very happy with mine, but obviously that won't stop me sticking the spare set of uprated manual turbos on if/when my auto turbos die !

just leave it. the fact that you had poor compression on the old motor and this new motor is up to spec will more than compansate for any marginal losses iff any

Thought about sticking manual cams in mine? would there be much noticable difference?

why would you want to fit manual cams ? its auto cams that are of differant profile, besides the only benefit would be if you had a manual and fitted auto cams and turbos due to profile and size, besides its marginal

the benefit of having an auto to manual conversion is,you keep the auto tubs and cams and transmission loss is minimal
