I've driven a few cars with and without dump valves....found they made no effect on performance.

...in one case, I actually found it went better without...but that was a Cavalier Turbo though....

I have got to admit though I really love that sound that they make.

Mmmmm, not that fussed by them. Trouble is, so many are fitted to 'lesser' turbo charged cars that they don't sound so good anymore.

Nice raw wastegate chatter is much much nicer. :)

What does that sound like then?

Like wastegate chatter strangely enough  ;)

Can't do a keyboard impression of it though unfortunately. I'll try and find a sound bite.

Yeah?? I have never heard that either, I have heard Macca go on about chatter but not owning a T/T never heard it???

not a problem m8

just another complication for you to get to the bottom of whats up with your car,

as for performance i'm not sure if anyone truly knows do they??

my understanding they allow excess boost pressure to be vented out of the pipes so leaving the turbos to spin at much higher RPM than without the valves.

This SHOULD help quicker spoolup time after gear changes, as above they have to be on the right car to sound right, and the ZX imo is deffo the right car;)

from one of my previous posts :

so you want wastegate chatter ?

The sounds is pressurised air bouncing back off the closed throttle plates and exiting the intake system via the impellor blades (backward) and then out through the air filter. The ch-ch-ch-ch noise is the air being "cut up" by the impellor blades as it stalls the turbo on it's journey backward out the system.

Cossie's and some other Turbocharged cars give off that noise as they dont have recircs or BOV's as standard like the zed does.

Basically, all you need to do to get the sound is remove & cap the standard recirculating valves and turn the boost waaay up. It is bad for your turbos - will reduce their life, and if you're unlucky, shatter the impellor. Not to mention the MAF getting confusd when the throttle is shut and causing fuellin issues.

;)

;)

Excellent description mate, but I want to hear some chatter. LOL  Somebody record your Z chatting for me and play it on here. ;)

They wont help over a stock, as the zed already has them as standard in the form of Recirculating valves (A dump valve that does'nt vent to amosphere).

...but still...I am guilty of recently fitting some HKS BOV's to mine :D

I got BOV's and it does sound nice, especially when you give it beans past the local when all the chavs are sat outside having a pint. Strangely, they recognise the sound of turbo dump valves, but not the sound of the job centre.

I find they generate the wrong kind of attention though, it's usually the boy racers and chavs that rubber neck when they hear them.
