Advce Needed On Keeping My Z

Right boys and girls,

Do I sell the Z like I was going to?

OR........

Do I throw more money at it and go for, New Blitz exhust and induction kit (how much for me Johnny?) headlight upgrade, meshed front end, new spoiler (either from Jamie* or Luke at Z centre) air-con replacment and few other bits and bobbs that I have priced up?

I do have some money to throw at the Z now but what should I do.

Really woud appreciate your input guys.

Matty.

Spend, spend, spend ! You'll only regret it if you dont !

So you won't be wanting my stock zorst now then mate? Which according to Mr. Duff is in rather good nick! Thought you'd sold your car which is what you needed it for in the first place?

Anyone need a stock exhaust? Selling at a rather cheap price!

Hi ya Matty!

Good to see that you've got an alternative to selling the Zed. Here are my thoughts (and they are all my opinion):

Keeping the Zed would be fantastic but only if it isn't going to cause you mega problems in other areas of your private/business life. After all, a car (even a Zed) is not worth wrecking your private life or business reputation over.

If you do feel you have money to spend on the car then I'd be really selective in what you spend it on. What I mean is, there are certain upgrades that are going to enhance the resale value of your car and others that add nothing. Items like meshed grilles, upgraded headlights & spoilers rarely put up the value of your car. They may enhance your driving pleasure but with the possible exception of an aftermarket exhaust they are not going to make a significant impact on your resale value. And basically that is what you're looking at in the long run. You want to spend money now so that if you still need to sell your Zed later on you'll get more for it than you would at the moment.

Again, these thoughts are just my opinion and you may think differently - which is fair play. But if I were you I'd really look into what I was going to spend the money on.

Cheers mate, speak to you soon!

Hi TopSquads

I'm in the same situation...

problem is I have been looking around for a new car, either a newer Zed or another car alltogether.... but the conclusion is always the same, I'm hooked!!!

I cannot find any other second hand car to buy that would give me the same driving experience/satisfaction as my Zed would by spending some more money on it...

I mean if you want to get a decent second hand car you will be spending probably more than what it is needed to refresh you current zed...

the difference is that if you spend it on your zed you end up with a car that looks and drives just the way you want it... if you spend it on a second hand car you then may need to spend some more to do things to your new motor to make it more appealing

if you sell yours and buy another maybe newer Zed...well first you do not really know if it really is much better than yours.... and then you are luckly to spend more money on it to refresh it next year...

also, if you like sport cars and the zed... you may not always be a sensible person smile.gif

in the end to spend on your car may be the best option... not the most sensible one but the more appealing one smile.gif

still, I'm not 100% sure I'll keep mine... smile.gif

I'm on 90% keep mine and spend some good money on it to personalise/improve/refresh a few things...

10% buy something else. like a honda prelude V-Tec or an alfa 156 2.5 V6.... but it simply won't be the same anymore...it is just that the Zed is such a top car that once you had one for a while nothing else compares for any or all these reasons: outside style/look... inside modern look uncredible on a 1990 car!!!....

driving position.... handling (strut bars...suspens..Traction helping)... size!... 4 seats!!! for the occasional group day out smile.gif... and hey we are not talking about a "everyone has got one Supra" here.... we are talking about a classic car with heritage from older Zed like the 240 etc...

there is so much in a zed that unless you are prepared to drop all of it and get a skoda you will suffer badly without one :0)

Ok,

Not in this for business, but to help geniune enthusiasts, and stop what happened to me.

I can purchase on your behalf cars from Japan direct. I can choose which cars to bid on and how much. You wont get stung with an older car like I did. Sold 1994, turned out to be 1991.

I have just purchased a 1991 Manual in RED TT 2+2. This is for a colleage at work.

The complete UK on the road price will be £5000. The car has 82000KMs, which is about 50 000 miles.

I can get any year and most colours. If there is any particular colour you want it can be obtained but a little patience may be required. However there are 9 Auctions a week, and as many as 90+ Z's in one auctions.

Obviously of different flavours.

Let me know, if your interested.

Leigh.

The problem as previously stated is what are you going to replace it with? There is no car on the market for that sort of money that offers the same style, performance and pose. and having had all of that you are going to miss it. After the sale of my first Zed i went through a load of cars that promised much and delivered little, the up shot I lost a bit of money on each and ended up with another Z, I had to sell the first one cause of finances. The current 1 is everything I wanted from the first, I am a little wiser now and realise that the love affair is not going to be cheap but I actualy want the trip to work to be longer and no other car has ever done that for me.

If needs must sell, but finding a replacement will be difficult even paying far more than you'll sell the car for. Yes there is more reliable cars out there but ther come at a premium. The real choice is pay more up front and spend less on ownership or vice versa.

Godd luck

Mark

Z People...(stands upon soap box)

Thanks for the comments and advice they are much appreciated and respected.

(gets down off soap box)

Danny,

I see your point mate but if I improve the look (lights, mesh, spoiler etc) surely that makes it all the more easier to sell if I 'really' had too later, not only that I would be able to see in the dark for a change wink.gif , I would be protecting my rad from any damage by putting on the mesh and having a new spoiler put on the Z is important not only for me but it's an eyesore and does need replacing and does detract from what is a stunning car!

I do agree however that aftermarket Zorst, brakes, body kits and things would push the price up but would narrow my market a bit I think, plus I love the stock shape after all everyones and individual.

Everyone,

I do agree about the Z experience, there is nothing like it at all unless you start to spend 50k on stooopid cars (not that I wouldn't like to own one!) and I can't do wothout that Z grin...... biggrin.gif

I have had to do some serious thinking about the Z and I am still thinking now but I am swaying to 90% keeping the Z. shame to let down the guy that was/is going to buy it but the deal that was/is going to happen I would have been giving the Z away and I don't think I am prepared to do that not when I can get the Z 100% and command a much higher place at a later date.

Am I rambling......I think I am....

(gets coat)

Cheers everyone,

Matty.
