ok i want one, the tailgate replacement tubs from the zed centre. how much effort/money would it cost to fit one on a LWB z? anyone done it?

Featured Replies

i've got one from Luke and with a bit of luck my car will be going over to Lukes mate Frank in the next couple of weeks for a full wide arch kit incl. tailgate tub and a full respray. It won't be ready for about 6-8 weeks but i should be able to post up pictures when i get it back

You wont get a lot of replies as there are only a couple of people with them fitted, and not a popular choice. It just replaced the windscreen, so will involve blending into tailgate and respray.

They do tend to act like a pond when i it rains, the interior finish is a bit poor, and if fitting to a LWB then anyone over 3ft tall wont have any head room in the rear.

I've seen one on a SWB - makes the car look kind of like a Lotus Esprit at the rear, which is not necessarily a bad thing.

However I wouldn't do it to a LWB at all for the reason stated above. Anyway I prefer the sleek look the rear screen gives the car, not the "cut-of XJS" look of the tub.

If you like it, that's all that matters.

Mate, if i go into the details of how much it all cost me then im gonna be here all night!

The tub can be bought from Luke at the Z centre or im not sure if Russ is doin it aswell, you can ask but fitting it to a LWB is diffucult, you need someone good with fibreglass and filler as there will be a few imperfections in the tub as it does dip but can be fixed with a good bodyshop guy!

Will get some pics up asap

I thought about doing this as well to my LWB. I was thinking that as there will be no headroom in the rear, why not remove the seats altogether. This would mean more storage space, less weight and if you are any good at fabricating there is a whole lot you could do to that space.
