Could be the same problem i had on mine in 2nd and 4th, noisy main shaft bearings in the box, i've just replaced all the bearings in the box and replaced all the synchro's too to save having it apart again later on. A full set of bearings from Nissan was about £330.

Symptoms were a whining under load and at idle but disappeared with the clutch down.

Get the GB oil changed. MT90 is the lube of choice.

i only changed it about 2 year ago

how often should it be changed?

their doesnt seem to be any signs of a leak

check the rubber gators underneath gearstick, remove gearknob and centre section, and check if 1 or both gators are split, what will happen is when you enter 2nd gear it leave a gap between the road and the transmission tunnel, creates a whining noise, worth a look seen it a couple of times, dont condemn the gearbox yet ;)
