When I start the engine the dash light tells me that a door is open...I have checked all doors and they are closed. I thought it may have been the boot catch after it slammed shut but I have replaced the whole catch and it is still the same...

It is causing me grief cos now the batt is flat...

I need someone who knows how this works...anyone near Clacton???

Looks like it will need a meter and a bit of wire tracing...

Urgentish...cos I am p*ssed off...been off work the last couple of days with a pulled back muscle and now this,.....GRRRRRRR!!!!!

Take the switches out of the doors and give them a clean. Maybe the contacts inside are all furred up.

It is a long shot here but does the air con display also reset itself to 25 everytime you get in the car? there is a fuse that blows that can reset the aircon and make the light for doors open on the dash come on.

http://www.300zx.co.uk/tech/fuse-translation.htm

Its the one marked battery on that page.

is this the fuse box in the engine bay cos mine looks different?

hehehe...never seen one there.....hahahaha...well fook me...

Hello mate,

Can you hear the relay clicking when you operate any of the door switches? It's located on the passanger side rear (under the rear )quarter panel)

My windows etc all work fine, it just seems to think that one of the doors is pen and they aint. If anyone has any idea of how the wiring is routed etc that would be a start.

I was looking at the door sensor and it is just a single wire going into the switch which is covered by rubber. I assume then it goes to ground through the screw? How does that then work for the tailgate catch?

do you have have a bonnet switch for your alarm that may also be faulty normally same circuit as door lamp switches :x:

Ok, wiring as follows, the two door pins are wired directly to the interior light relay, they have diodes fitted at the relay connection point to prevent any back feed down adjacent cables, the rear hatch lock switch is also wired to the relay and again has a diode fitted at the relay end this prevents the door switches activating the hatch/ boot light when opening a side door.

If any of these cables are damaged or earthed the relay will be permanantly energised and hence the door open light is on when the ignition is on, and why the battery goes flat due to the relay been energised.

The green relay is situated behind the side panel on the rear passenger side, it is worth checking to see if it has stuck in, remove it from the connector, now slowly push back into the connector and see if it clicks, I kind of guess it will as firstly you have a fault and secondly you will have the door open whilst doing the test! assuming it does click it is not stuck in.

Now remove both door pins fixing screws, this will disable them, check to see if the boot light is on by pulling the seats down, not opening the boot! if it is the problem is with the boot lock switch, if it is not then one of the cables to the pin switches is earthed.

The most likely cause of the fault will be an added cable from an alarm or pager system, check the cable close to the door pins from behind, if any addition cables have been fitted this is the usual place for them to be, if you do find an extra cable scotch locked or soldererd on then remove it and do the tests again hopefully this will track it down for you.

If all else fails as a tempory fix leave the relay out and the door open light will not come on and it will not flatten your battery.

Thanks Jeff...will give it all a go at the weekend.
