ok people, I realise that my avatar pic kinda points to the fact that I'm a police officer!

In all honesty I really don't wanna be disliked because of what I do because I think I make a difference. There are also certain other members on the forum that, I think feel the same, and at the end of the day we're here because we try to do a good job, yet I can sympathise with people that feel differently, because they may have been treated unfairly.

Reading through the posts, I can see that most of the 'regular' members are sensible, law abiding citizens.

All I ask is that we (the police) are given a fair chance. I also realise that no actual inference has been made to the police service, by any member.

Anything contained within my post is my opinion, and is NOT the opinion of any Police force in the UK, or the home office.

Really guys, I'm just trying to improve the police/public relationship. Surely the vast majority of you will understand?

Thanks for listening!

I don't believe there will ever be a good relationship between the motorist and the police (generally) while the government are intent on shafting the motorist at every turn. It is not your fault but while the people in charge seem intent on using the speed camera for revenue raising, the average motorist is going to see the police as party to the shafting if you see what I mean.

Now I don't have an issue with the police, you have a job to do and usually do it very well, it is the people at the top that make the policies and it is those that are out of touch with public feeling, but they never get to interface with the public so we get a viscous circle....

So if you stop me...just remember I said you were ok bud...lol

Yeah What he said ! :mac1:

the officer in mr reds story probably wasnt typical, altho not unknown, with more people skills and seeing there was a child involved a better approach would have been to talk with a BIG SMILE and be NICE (which costs nothing, gets the point across and keeps the mood light hearted)...

the hard nosed approach will not only frighten the kids but also pi55 off the adults, if i'da been mr red i would have acted exactly the same given the officers manner...

the thing that concerns me is the sheer number of bad experiences people have with the police, this just cant be coincidence... i appreciate they have a difficult job to do, but unfortunately people dont like the fact that pulling drivers for fog lights / small number plates / tints / double parking (down a dead end steet at night) / doin 35 in a 30 zone etc.. are all too easy - responding to break ins, assaults, theft, car crime and damage to personal property however are FAR HARDER to get a response from the police... to me this STINKS BIG TIME, and until such time as i have faith in my local constabulary my views will remain the same...

sorry for this, i know a lot of what i said is down to management, shame really..

T

IMO, at the end of the day its down to the person, not the job, and how professional they are and how selfless they are. Most people have said 'oh f*ck it' and taken a short cut or been lazy in order to finish earlier, or maybe been a bit of an arseh*le to someone at work. The police are always accountable to the public so the stakes are much higher. I'll always have respect for people in uniform after being a Marine. I know how hard it can be in that position and the responsibilities and stresses that come with it.

However the situation with traffic speed laws just doesn't do anything to help the traffic police and their relationship with the public. I don't envy the people who do that thankless job. Don't particuarly like them either at the moment!! Lol!! (9 points, all from the motorway, cheers!).

The police are essential and its a shame there arn't more of them about the streets these days. I like the idea of the local bobby on the beat who knows the locals.

Welcome to the forum DirtySanchez! Hope you have a good Zed time! Maybe meet you at one of the SE meets sometime?

I have to say that like in all professions as said in the above links there are mainly decent people and there are a few t**sers, the trouble is people generalise and when they have a bad experience with a copper they announce all cops are muppets when for the vast majority this is not true, my best friend's a police officer and he's one of the nicest guys u could ever meet. It's unfair that people blame speed cameras on the police too as they are merely following orders, I personally disagree with them but their one of those annoyances in life that the politicians who make the decisions love

Anyway good on yer DirtySanchez, u seem a good lad :duffer:

All IMHO opinion and not intended to be brown nosing!

Rich

Like I said...it is not the local copper to blame for the speed cameras..it is the out of touch police constables and severe mismanagement that means us drivers get shafted...

I TOTALLY disagree with Mr Red. Volvo's are bloody good cars.......

maybe, but as soon as they get kitted up with blue lights then they're crap....... especially when driven by a fat filth bar-steward who is on a power crazed trip..... and he had fat greasy skin, and spots - he must have been in his 40's - WITH SPOTS !!..... greasy skinned , take away munching fat tosser..... :mac1: :mac1: :mac1:

he p***sed me off, can't you tell ?????

Sorry, i wasn't very clear but I meant it's the politicians who love putting speed cameras up everywhere, I agree the road laws need enforcing but think there are better ways than putting piggy banks up all over the place. I've been pulled a couple of times for minor speeding offences but always had an understanding copper who let me off with a slap on the wrist wheras a camera would always do u but not catch drink drivers, uninsured, TWOCers etc etc and to be honest a good rollocking is more effective IMO

Sorry that last post was intended for AngusGlover, I know what your saying though MrRed there are some c***s, in front of your daughter too, he should have known better

It is not the politicians, it is the camera partnership in conjunctioon with the cops as all the money from the cameras goes back into the coffers for the local cops...

If it is not cameras, it is some dumb schmuk putting bus lanes on motorways!!!! What a sh*te idea...

Lets try the logic...Ok, so let us take a busy motorway where the 3 lanes are really busy all the time, then take one away and make it for buses only. Hmmnot good thinking. Then watch what happens. It was proven on some days on the M4 that only 2 buses went down that lane all fookin day...

It is time the rules were made by someone sensible...and that actually USES THE ROAD NOT SOME DUMB ASS POLITICIAN...

Rant over..sorry guys..went off on one...

That says it all

I have been stopped by traffic police in the past and they have always been fair and reasonable. At the end of the day you fellas are just following orders - it's the anti-car policies of the government that are to blame.

Also Blair's soft stance on criminals leaves the police powerless to effectively fight real crime. Unfortunately since most members of the public only have contact with the police, not the government, when the shit hits the fan hence that is where they place the blame. This inevitably leads to a lack of respect for the law and its enforcement :(

You're alright by me mate!

Richard :D

PS that red zx doing 155 on the M4 a few weeks back wasn't me. I was driving my other car that day...........

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I have the up most respect for the police. :duffer:

Heh heh, Shouldn't that be "Utmost" Si :x:

Sorry mate! Like you I also notice mis-use of the English Langauage but it is always worth a rib when a fellow crusader slips up :D

Richard :smw:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Having said that, there are some anal coppers out there.

I was done for speeding a few years ago on my bike. I was doing 82 so you may say, fair cop. It was a friday evening on the M25, 23:55 and not another car in site...I was the only thing on the road at that point apart from the cop ...and he saw fit to do me...I say "get a bl**dy job you enjoy if you are gonna be that petty"...

Still say most cops are ok. They do a tough job with tough conditions and get a load of sh*t from drunks and thugs...and the pay is rubbish so they get my respect,...

Sorry I was mis-informed on that one but well said though! It would be nice to have someone who has a clue as Transport Minister istead of some t*sser who's driven around in the back of his jag all paid for by us taxpayers money

It is not the politicians, it is the camera partnership in conjunctioon with the cops as all the money from the cameras goes back into the coffers for the local cops...

I'm not sure that it does, camera partnership is maintained by the Highways Agency, correct me if I'm wrong?

I agree that is a stupid idea but I think some driver re-education is required. I quite often travel on the motorway only to find majority of motorists find it far too much effort to use the left hand lane even when there are no vehicles in it? What does it do, wear our tyres down more, use more petrol, I don't know but most vehicles just don't use the motorway correctly.

Anyway, nice to see such a pleasant response, I cringed when I saw Dirty's thread, looked like potentail forum suicide.

Streuth - it's the law! Shut up and let me do the talking.

Quick Tim hide the crack pipes :x:

Seriously, this place is about our cars and thats what matters :)

loads of respect for the police who help the public and protect them, unfortunatly no respect for traffic police, certainly wouldnt let one snoop around my car, couldnt see me mixing socially with them.

And as a biker I can honestly say you are treat even worse than car drivers.

These are the only good peeps employed to keep all the poxy jobless spotty drunken drugged up twats stealing/vandalising my Zed

On the other hand...

My other car was stolen last month and the police didnt even come to collect evidence for future conviction....

So thats why I pay £500 a month in tax..for these great services not to bother turning up but ever so willing to stop me and suggest to say my window tint is illegal only to find on the light test it passes

HHmmmm...split minds

They dont do it for the pay thats for sure so I think there mostly honest genuine people that want to help the good come out and the bad dissapear.

But on the whole a great help to the community...

So good on ya DS :duffer:

Bizarely since i got into trouble with the Police 5 years ago (no specifics so nerr) I have developed a better understanding of the bizarre, mundane and awfull stuff they have to deal with. Often they have to try and be a honest broker between people who want to rip each others heads off. They are human so its not perfect

I had a particulary violent girlfriend once - mad mandy, who in a rage had to be dragged into the back of a police van by 4 coppers. All got bruised and one got her finger bitten. But the Police were sympathetic to the overall context of the situation and gave her a caution. Life is so weird and as a copper i imagine they get it in full Technicolor with THX surround 24 hours a day.

Having just had heard that the man who killed my best mate, has been found guilty, i have nothing but respect for the police.

They spent so many hours in prepairing the case, shutting down roads, getting motorbikes to reinact the accident, they really did a tremondous job.

What we forget is apart from stopping us for having a fast car, they call on the homes of 24 yr old sons, to tell mam and dad their son will never be coming home.

They have to deal with the remains of a young man left to die at the side of the road

They have to put their own lifes at risk, to chase the bell ends that do a runner.

As the advert on Tv say's

I couldn't do it

I've got issues with the fact the police seem to have their priorities totally wrong.

As an example, when i had a car nicked a few years back, everyday they promised someone would be round, did they ever come round? did they feck!!! I gave up waiting after a week and in the end had a rant down the phone to them to tell them all the details.

Cue a year or two later and i reported to the police that it looked like next dorrs had been broken in to, ( turns out in the end they hadnt, it had been a huge domestic in the night, smashed windows etc) but the woman who lived there was a copper, and when i mentioned that on the phone to the station they were round in less than 5 mins. Only looking after thier own, a case we see quite regularly whe na high flying cop gets off with speeding in the courts.

GRRRRRRRRRRR

Next up we have the lovely cheshire police in Warrington who i see quite regularly setting up speed traps. I've not got an issue with the trap itself its the total waste of manpower. Everytime they set one up i see at least 1 in an unmarked parked up with the radar gun in his hand pointing it out of the window.

Driving past this car i see another ' marked' car wit hanother 2 cops in it, then 100 yeard past that sitting on the roundabout but another marked car with another 2 inside it. So thats 5 or 6 coppers and 3 card all sat there to catch someone doing 35 in a 30. What a fecking waste of resources.

Up here in Scotland we call them the "polis" ! :D Nessecary evil !!

Welcome to the club mate. As stated earlier, in every walks of life there are good guys and ****s. You sound allright to me. :)

One question tho !

What makes you so dirty, Sanchez ??? ;)

Alan.........
