think the turbo seals are on their way out now. Had enough.

Not sure whether to sell the car or break it - think I may get about 2K upwards by breaking it. Either that or take off the best bits and keep em for a new zed?

I got about £5K tops.

Got my heart on another Zed - preferably a shortie TT Manual Tbar jobbie.

Just love having the tops off in the summer.

Skyline - Prob only be a GTS though :( - Im presuming they are not as fast as ours and dont have Roof off :)

 

3000GT/GTO TT - I think same speed as ours (poss dare I say it faster??) 4WD - good but again no roof off :(

 

Supra TT - Ugly - dont care if theyre fast - the only one I like is the aerotop and they are too much for the Aerotop TT version.

 

RX7 - Think these are fastest of em all. Unsure about styling.

zed or rx7 id say mate but ive heard rumours about rx7 engine blowing up every 30-40 thousand miles.

They dont blow up, just need a bit of a rebuild. You'll be lucky to find an RX7 for 5k though.

 

Skyline GTS is still a nice car and can still be fast.

 

300GT is a big horrible lump

RX7s sound w@nk though. Have you ever heard one with a large exhaust on full chat? Sounds dreadful.

 

3000GT/GTO are not fast than Zeds.

 

Only one of that lot other than the Zed that I'd consider is the Skyline, but I'd got for an R32 GTR.

 

S14...ok, but pretty bland.

Yeah, i know a guy who bought one with a

warranty, the engine went tits up, the warranty would

only cover up to £2500, the poor guy had to foot the bill

for the rest! This was at 'rotechniks' iirc.

Saying that, i've spoke to people at various meets and

they've said about £2500 for a rebuild all in. Also heard

the rear suspension bushes are very expensive to replace.

Supra would be my choice :D but you will only get a non turbo for 5k or an auto tt if your lucky

Just don't get a 3000GT or GTO... If it goes wrong you'll have the same problem as a Z'ed... Engine out jobbie, no room to work on or get to anything and when driving it you'll be wishing you got another Z'ed...

There's a few good r32 gtr's about for 6k ish if you can stretch. Probably wont be long till they are 5k I reckon. You'll probably regret a gts after having a TT Zed. There are some fast ones about though and some people prefer the rear wheel drive instead of the snazzy four wheel on the gtr.

Rx7's are lovely cars, you should get an already rebuilt one, one of the most uncompromising sports cars around. You wont get one for 5k unless you are very lucky. Mind you my mate recently got one for 2.5k because it wasn't running right and was about to 'go'. Turned out it was just a vacuum pipe come off!

3000gto TT are not a very popular choice, and the Zed is always considered better. Not that I've ever drove one though.

Supras are too expensive (because, dare I say it, they usually age better than Zeds. Although not in the looks department IMO!).

How about an s14? as said or even a well modded s13 with some cash to spare?

I may have a look at an R32 GTR Skyline - just not right keen on the styling of em ;) Inside looks like a basic taxi cab sorta car.

 

thought about going down the 200sx route - but prefer its big brother.

Im really interested in MARTINFA's Black SWB - mint looking motor but personally I wanted a slightly newer car than mine - like a series 2.

IMHO I would not touch a RX7, too expensive in oil alone.

I believe the Mitsi GTO is almost half a second quicker to 60 than the Z but are far more expensive to maintain.

Supra, I don't mind them, but I know fook all about them.

Skyline would always be something I'd like to buy but again I think they are far more expensive to maintain than a Z but I also think they are starting to look dated.

I guess the S14 would be a good choice3, for a little money and mods you could get similar performance to the Z.

What its that time already!! GTO bashing from people who obviously know nothing about them!!

 

1. GTO's are no bigger lumps than a Z and I would go as far as to say if Z's were made with the superior 4WD system they would probably weigh more than the GTO as they're not far off it anyway

 

2. The only reason you would have to take the engine out is to replace it with a new / reconditioned one, certainly not to change turbo's tho

 

3. Fastest tuned car out of the two in the UK = GTO TT ;)

 

4. Handling goes to the GTO in the dry but in the wet............well :D

 

5. looks are about even IMO but only if the Z has some body mods.... that's down to personal taste tho :p

My m8 picked up a rx7 twin turbo for 1.5k needs work doing on it though. A good one with rebuilt engine cost can cost 7K.

 

If I was making the decision for you it would either be a short wheel base ZX TT or a skyline r32gtr.

just to add to what everyones already said, rx7's definetly always need a rebuild by 60k, no matter how well u treat them. i was in the same situation as u i.e i had jsut under 5k to spend, and i have to say ive been in a few GTO's and have to say there certainly not slow and they do stick to the road, and although u cant get a convertible they have a large glass panel type sunroof that comes off u can stick in the boot so its not far off. theres a few decent skylines around for 5k, but youll have to hunt, and 90% will be R33 GTS which are not to be sniffed at

however id have to go with the advice of maybe a 200sx, that kinda money will net u a good 'un or maybe a pulsar? not to everyones taste but 5k would get u some serious (although very ugly!) power.
