OK, im sure you all know about the numerous problems ive had,

Anyway recently i bought some 100watt bulbs from DTA Motorsport as i'd been advised these would give me a little better lighting.

Anyway, i fit these and they look like this

DSC00229.jpg

Yes, not very bright at all :(

Anyway in the end i have decided to just get some normal H3 bulbs from halfrauds as i litterally couldn't see when the lights were on.

So how's what they look like now

DSC00238.jpg

Quite good for a Zed.

Actually to be honest they seem about as good as normal cars :x:

Im quite impressed :D

hmmm i have the same problem, got 100w and to be honest they are dangerous, i cant see much on dark roads... i put it down to the shit light design, maybe i should try the bulbs i took out the skyline, i'll let ya know..

The Biggest problem with Stock lights is that they suffer from the inside of the glass, ellipsiod lense and chrome rings becoming dirty overtime, severely affecting output.

yup, can appreciate that, as i said mine have been completely stripped, cleaned and re-sealed and are still dangerous... may just go for HID's ..

T

Hmmmm ... this is very odd.

I've personally installed the upgraded 100W H3 bulbs into my JDM TT and have found the difference (compared to stock 55W H3 bulbs) to be significant. I have a lot more light on the road now and it is a hell of a lot brighter. I've got some "before-n-after" pics somewhere - I'll post them up when I find them. I too have cleaned the inside of the light units and it did make a difference althought prior to cleaning the light units the increase in brightness was just about as good. Can't really understand why both Bird and Tony have had problems with these as I have sold quite a few of these to people who have raved about the results ... Very odd indeed.

As Long as you don't follow the little halfrauds bulb guide thing, it's completely wrong. You need bulbs 453 not 448. Idiots

453...448..that must be Halfords own numbers ?

H3 for UK Dim beam

H3c for Jap Dim beam (halfords wont sell them)

H1 for Main beam

Yeah, that's right. Should have put that, sorry!

just to say, i have a funny feeling about all this, how come theres plenty of happy people on here who have gone to 100w and me and bird who have had problems... i also have a funny feeling that this is something to do with installation, my mechanic is top notch to be fair, but i am going to ask him to double check everything and make sure they're installed right, i'll also get the old skyline bulbs in (were very good) and make a comparison, in fact i might put one of each in and post a pic...

i do NOT have a problem with the bulbs in general as the main beam and fog light bulbs i got at the same time are spot on, even the COLOUR of the dip beam is different, hence my thinking they may have been installed wrong..

wow i feel like sherlock holmes.. lol.. lol..

i'll let ya know..

Ok - as promised, I've done some digging around and found the before and after pics I was talking about earlier. To be completely honest, the "before" pics are of the 100W H3 Halogen bulbs I had been running for over two years (so not the stock 55W bulbs). Still the difference is very clear. The "after" pic was taken the following day after I had cleaned the headlights and realigned the lights.

Before (100W H3 HALOGEN):

100W H3 Halogen.jpg

After (100W H3 Xtreme White XENON - non HID):

100W H3 Xtreme White Xenon.jpg

As you can see the difference is quite significant. In case you're wondering, the new bulbs had been converted to H3C to fit my JDM ZX TT.

My investigation has only just begun but I will post up any useful information once I've had a chance to verify/duplicate the current problems.

All the best,

Dan

hmmm, oddly mine lokk almost IDENTICAL to the TOP pic danny..... even down to the colour... which is strange.. and also the "shape" of mine is like the TOP pic, so maybe they need alighning...

altho this doesnt answer the COLOUR issue... i'm wondering whats the chances of the SAME bulbs going back in mine by mistake, i shal make a fone call and ask... steve who does most of the work on my car is awesome, but i suppose its possible...

T

edit: just spoke to my mate, no chance of the wrong bulbs going in, so hes going to realign everything and also do a comparison test on sunday..

Hi Tony,

Let me know how the comparison test goes - I'd be very interested in the results!

Danny

Danny you're a lighting legend. :duffer:

PS, I've still got those bits I need to send off, will do it over the weekend.

Yup, generally their part numbers for the 300zx are total crap - they list H1 bulbs for full an dipped beam

Richard :o

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Danny, sorry to say it but my bulbs , the H3 100w xenon are dangerously dim also. After I fit them on tuesday i realised the nissan ones I took out were a lot brighter. I wasn't going to mention it because I thought it was just dirt inside the lens but now i'm not so sure, bad batch perhaps?

  • Author
bad batch perhaps?

That may be a good point.

I thought perhaps some cars maybe just aren't quite getting the juice that others are

mines got a brand new heavy duty battery and the main beam is fine, so probably not the juice in my case, but 3 with the same issue, thats odd, 2 maybe, but 3 does seem a little strange especially as many others have been fine with these in the past...

are yours orange also chewie?? coz mine look like dannys TOP picture...

Tony

 Well, this is indeed very strange.

Until further notice I'm suspending all sales of the 100W H3 Xtreme White Xenon bulbs. I invite anyone who's having similar trouble with them to get in touch with me.

I'm investigating this problem with the bulb supplier and will post up any findings.

I apologise to anyone who's having problems with these bulbs. Please get in touch and I'll do my best to sort things out with you.

Danny mate, why dont when you get mine back you try them in your car or something to see if it is the bulbs or just our zed's.

Also just to mention that the main beans are also ok on my car too

couple of things here, firstly i shoved a 55w version of our 100w dip beam bulb in today, seems not only whiter but also brighter (pic to come soon)....

secondly, the 100w dip beam seems to have sort of a "rainbow" along the top of the line of light when shone on a wall...

thirdly, thirdly, the 55w that i put in hasnt fixed in very well, so this may be causing a problem....

my mechanics gunna sort it (hopefully) on sunday...
