Leaking radiator water and coolant but not from radiator??

Help, my Z has started dripping at quite a fast rate my radiator coolant and water, I have taken some pictures below as it appears to be coming from some sort of metal tank beneath the engine where the cogs are?? Its not coming from either the radiator or the pipes by the looks of it, I have booked into a garage to get it sorted friday but I would like to know what you people think first. Any more questions about it please ask. It is leaking when the car is not running as well as when it is. All advice would be gratefully apprieciated. Many Thanks.

The metal tank thing is in the last pic, but there is no hole in the underneath or anything it seems to be coming from where something go's into the tank. Sorry about the non technical description.

could be hoses right at the back under the engine. There are 2 main ones, turbo coolant hoses I think...they have silly clips on that have a habit of going or becoming weak.

It cannot be turbo coolant hoses mate, as its an N/A, but cheers anyway.

Not sure but is the water pump not located around there?

Not sure but I do'nt think so???????????? Also I did'nt fancy staying under the car to long as only up on a scissor jack and I have seen my Z slip off a jack before, luckily I was not under it. But the garage I am taking it to will be able to find out for sure, just thought somebody on here would be able to put their finger straight on it.

Are you getting any steam from underneath the cam covers when she's been running? If so, it's most likely one of the two short rubber coolant hoses which link the top water pipe to the cylinder head... These are a common failure :(

Yes mate I am getting steam, but do'nt know where from as I only seem to se a small amount come from underneath the bonnet while stopped at light after been driving it.

looks to me as though its the water pump! but it could be the thermostat housing seal !!! or one of the pipes from thermo housin or clips!! good luck!! :smash:

I checked that mate and radiator is as clean as a whistle but cheers anyway bud.

Only guessing mate, can't see a lot from the pics-but the metal tank your referring to aint' the sump is it?-if the 'cogs' are the pulleys then I take it the leaks at the front of the engine?

If yes to the above, could be the 'usual' suspects,i.e. water pump, the short hoses from the block to the water pipes, metal spigots these hoses fit to,or even the t/stat housing.

I was basically taking my life into my hands taking these pics and I suspect the water is dripping down from above somewhere and what you have said sounds correct as Cybernet has also mentioned this I do'nt suppose you have pics of these pipes or even the pipes them selves??

IIRC...

Remove fan

Remove cam covers

Remove top water pipe

Im in the process of replacing these hoses at the moment. You need to remove the fan cowl (top & bottom), the viscous fan and the top water pipe (although I removed both top & bottom for better access). Its a fiddly job but very do'able, you may need to buy a long reach 6mm allen key or socket for your socket set as the three bolts holding the top pipe on are set back quite a way and WILL be tight!

...water pump bearing seal. Needs new water pump - and you may as well do the hoses at the same time - and if the timing belts old, do that as well.

Good luck
