If the car takes ages to sort the revs out, what would be the issue? Is there some kind of idle control valve on zeds?

It's not hunting or anything or reving too much. Say I'm driving and I come to a stop, put it into neutral. Revs drop quite low and it feels like the car is going to stall, sometimes it does, but more often than not, it doesn't and give it a few seconds and eventually the revs will rise back to normal idle.

Got exactly the same problem Si :(

I fitted another MAF as my old one had failed and have had this problem ever since....

Prehaps I needed to reset the ecu to accomodate for the MAF?

Havnt got the foggiest what I should do really

there is an ilde control valve at the back of the engine on the passenger side. which is a sod to get out but i have done it.

If the revs drop a bit low when braking it can be the PCV valves.

Was going to suggest the same thing.

Also the throttle bodies get a build up of greasy gunk after time. Disconnect the battery (so that the ECU can re-set itself whilst you are cleaning them). Then remove the hoses from the turbos to the inlet manifold, put plenty of kitchen roll or old rags beneath the inlets and spray loads of carb cleaner in until it starts to run out clear. Give the insides a bit of a wipe with an old rag or toothbrush, squirt some more carb cleaner in and re-connect the hoses.

Some of the gunk will get into the idle control valve, so remove the hose and give that a squirt of carb cleaner too.

Re-connect everything (inc battery) and start te car.

It will take a while to fire up and will run rough/smokey until all the carb cleaner is burnt off, then go out for a thrashing and all will be better.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Happens to mine if I switch the "auto" climate control off. Switch it back to auto and everything is fine. Sure you have tried this but just in case.

That'll only be masking the problem! (ECU increases revs when you put the climate on). Good enough to get by, but it's not fixing the problem :(

Do what he said.

But to me it sounds like the base idle is set too low on the control valve. Theres a screw on the side near the battery, adjust this to increase it.

And shelton, the reaon for that is that when the a/c is on the auxilliary air valve is opened to increase rpm slightly and compensate for the drag of the compressor. If your car wont idle properly with the a/c turned off then there is something wrong with the idle control. Do as above and that should cure it.

if you have a dump valve not set up prop this can happen

Cheers Carkey, much appreciated. The car never actually stops but the tickover does drop quite low. I'll try adjusting the screw as mentioned.

Where exactly is this screw??
