Supercharge and Turbos combined...any doubts???

Anyone got any techie knowledge on this?

Looking at combining a serious blueprint but has anyone seen/experienced any actual projects?

Got good knowledge on these both but not combined...also have the means to complete ;)

General/sarcastic comments/statements also welcome

if you can do it go for it if the timing can be right ideally supercharger to work from low rpm no lag then turbos to come in around 4k would be nice

obviously a bulletproof engine to start then get some advice from an engineer on mounting points,ie remove the aircon and have the charger mounted there by fabrication running of the crank

good luck bud

CheerZ greeeeeeeeeg :D

Yer....Engine would obviously be blueprinted (Titanium stuff and yummy crank/rods...wire strung block...blah blah blah  )

Fabrictaion is no probs but what you say about the timing...do they have opposite characteristics?

Hi BM

You might try all the websites dedicated to the MR2 Supercharger..This being a feisty little car which comes witha SC Stock it has been turboed by a few successfully.

HKS Did a kit, I think it was for a Honda or the MR2SC...theres some stuff online about Hondas being converted.

Also theres the Lancia Integrale of years ago. Lancia rallied a car with both types of pump turbo and supercharger.

Sorry I dont have the links, there not that difficult to find.

The fundemental problem you need to overcome is high pressure high volume gas flow control although some have overcome this by turboing straight through a super charger like inline pumps thus avoiding any crossover vlaves.

You need to be a serious techy to get to grips with this idea if you are that well good luck please keep me in the loop.

nah bud timing meaning timing for when supercharger hits peak and when turbos come in

lol.....thats ok then...will be adjusting the SC for start/stop timing...will leave the tubs as they are

oooooo....off to google now bud :D

Yer...Too much added weight over the power gains is a question?

as my overweight zed will be anemic in the near future...

already have fibreglass Wings/Bonnet/F&R Bumpers/Skirts/Wings and loadsa trick ally stuff incl Extremely light wheels thanks to Baggins ;) ...

but the boot and targatops are next....Then I gota strip it like a Biatch

Im pretty well upto date but dont know all the ins and outs...my engine builder is more in the know but every little helps ;)

Thanks JH

Well here it is....Googles so good to me :D

Follow This To The "DELTA S4" link

There you can read about it

s4_studio.jpg

"An all new engine was designed by Abarth. This had a capacity of 1759cc, used an alloy cylinder head and cylinder block, had four valves per cylinder, twin overhead camshafts, fuel injection (with two injectors per cylinder) and most interestingly both a turbocharger and a supercharger with twin air-to-air intercoolers. A power of 480bhp was produced at 8400rpm. The unusual route of using a supercharger and turbocharger together was to avoid the poor performance of the large turbochargers at low engine speeds. On the S4 the order, from the air intake was turbocharger, intercooler, supercharger, intercooler, inlet manifold (schematic diagram ). Once the supercharger became less efficient, at higher engine speeds where the turbo performed better, a bypass allowed the turbo to feed the engine directly."

So were talking 480bhp on a 1.8cc

HHmmmmmm

So a 3.0cc @ 10,000rpm and a NoZ injection should be interesting :D

Now where the fook am I gona find a rear prop/Gearbox for that MoFO

Dare I say it...Supra :nelson:

de tomaso pantera's in the late eighties were modded by some with twin turbos a supercharger and running nitrous on a 5.7 litre lump giving out about 900bhp

remember reading about them in "Street machine" .....well i was a young buck then

imnot sure but i think Nick Manns rover powered morris minor was turbo'd , supercharged and nitrous injected......in its day it was the quickest street legal car in the uk

Not using stock tubs bud...

18's+ depending ;)

lol.....thats ok then...will be adjusting the SC for start/stop timing...will leave the tubs as they are

Sorry, didnt sound that way :p

TBH I don not think you would find the room to mount everything in the Z's engine bay?

Youre right...if i left everything where it is...

but...

There would be a relocation of the rad and other bits at the front end to make room for the Charger...

Although when the chassis is strengthend I'll probably end up adjusting the inner bay near the wings and bulkhead for the tubbies as these wil not fit straight in.

Not gona be easy ...but a challenge :smash:

one of my biggiest worries from what ive heard-read about is the cost of getting the ignition/fueling mapped

http://www.sportcompactcarweb.com/features/0203scc_uscc6/ Link no.1, MR2 has supercharger & turbo combo

http://www.cardomain.com/ride/565513 Link no.2 Mazda RX4!!

http://www.cardatabase.net/search/photo_search.php?id=00012683 Opel Manta.....

Nissan put one into production with the old Micra Super S, the square shape.

But as you found out the most famous car was probably the lancia.

I am trying to find a picture of a skyline engine for you, it is being elusive tho mate.

Yeah, you're welcome dude. They give a little info on the swapover points. I thought that may help a little.

just read all the info thats been posted steve, and verrrrrrry intresting read i must say but in the case of a zed and all its other over complicated design and lack of engine bay space it would be one hell of a ride but financial suicide and thats with out the cost of all the prozak you,d be rammin down your pie hole :) :) but as a project to make a one in a million zed then go for it my son :duffer:

I'll be leaving the missus then

(im lucky enough to have the contacts for material/parts at a pittance of the UK usuall cost...and have a man that can) :duffer:
