Found this on another forum, its only in Oz atm but with the UK car market being as it is shouldn't be long before it hits our shores, apparently its even better for our environment..... (sorry if this is a repost)

Shell Optimax Extreme is a new flagship 100 octane fuel successfully formulated with 5% ethanol. This creates a new "super premium" petrol category for the Australian market place.

Ethanol is a renewable non-fossil fuel. It is a cleaner burning component that

helps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Through the formulation with ethanol, Shell Optimax Extreme has a substantially lower sulphur and benzene content than other Shell premium fuels. It is formulated to deliver more engine

responsiveness, sharper acceleration and enhanced power in many modern and high performance vehicles. It also has the same engine cleaning qualities as Shell Optimax.

The new fuel has been positively tested in Shell's global laboratory in the UK

and in Australia by industry experts including the motorsport icon, Dick Johnson. Major car manufacturers in Australia have recently endorsed the use of up to 10% ethanol blended fuel in their new vehicles.

Chairman of Shell Companies in Australia, Tim Warren, says, "Shell is committed to ensuring its fuel technology keeps pace with the engine technology being developed by car manufacturers round the world. Shell Optimax Extreme will take fuel technology within the Australian marketplace to a whole new level. It is our first fuel in Australia scientifically formulated with ethanol."

Shell Optimax Extreme complements Shell's comprehensive suite of motor fuels, which includes regular Shell unleaded petrol and Shell Optimax. Any car that can use ethanol-blended fuel can use Shell Optimax Extreme.

The new fuel will be manufactured at Shell's Geelong refinery and is the first

significant advance in unleaded fuel technology since the introduction of Shell

Optimax in 1999.

they've had the 100+ version across a lot of europe for a very long time now...still no sign of it coming here yet...but with new competition from Tesco's 99 Octane then Im sure Shell will be forced too.

Not compatible LOL

I think a zed could quite happily run on 10%ethanol, you'd just have to increase the duty cycle a bit if you ran into problems. When running on pure alcohol I hear you have to up your duty by as much as 50%, and I think the lubricants and additives in the petrol would give enough protection to your seals. A recommended way of protecting an alcohol running engine is to run it on petrol for a few minutes before you turn it off.

There is 100 ron over here in Germany. It's called V-Power by Shell. Lookin good LOL

Still dont think Tesco fuel can touch Optimax. I told Macca i would post up a test done between 95ron/optimax/bp ultimate/tesco 99. Forgot all about it though. I'll post it up when im back home in a couple of weeks.

Scott i use the tesco 99 ron and find it ok, find it a tad better than optimax.. esp round the 3-5k revbands.. maybe its because mines stills et up from when it was imported.. be good to see what works best on it .. TT or N/A.. dont they use 104ron or summit like that?
