Over the weekend, I had a trip from London to Glasgow taking the route of M40 / M6 (toll) then M74.

Didn't have the Road Angel with me as I was in a new car and need to buy one for this car.... I know that I slipped over the speed limit on a couple of occasions (was 6am and a clear road).

I did not come across any visible cameras on these motorways but have just found out that the SPECS systems may be active on these routes.

Does anyone know whether this is the case, where they are active or whether there any kind of speed trap (other than mobile vans) on these routes.

Any advise would be appreciated guys....

Also, If I have received a ticket, do you know how long it would take for one to come through???

Cheers...

Hi mate,

M40 is clear as I believe is the M6 toll road. The M6 has SPECS through various roadworks, otherwise it's OK.

The NIP must be issued to reach you within 2 weeks, plus a day or so for reasonable postal delay, if you have been caught.

Good luck!

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Hi Richard,

Thanks for the advise.

I also want to get one of the new Road Angel.. Where's the cheapest place to pick one up???

Cheers

See the for sale section mate - Karls post on road safety equipment....

(shameless plug i know  )

 i hate to tell you this but the M6 toll has specs on every gantry they time you between toll stations have been done on this road before

Travelled from Airdrie to Brighton to pick up my new Zed about 4 or 5 weeks ago, via the M6 toll road. On the way down we went through about 1.00pm and on the way back it was about 8.00pm.

Went through the full toll road about 60-70 on the way down, but was 70-80 on the way back as the road was not busy !

Mitsi Animal with a trailer towing a Camaro there and a Zed back home.

Aint got nothing through so far !! ;)

Alan....................

I'm sure there are no specs cameras on the M6 Toll - I have been down there early in the morning with several other cars travelling well over the limit and none of us have ever recieved an NIP. How would they justify 'safety' cameras on a brand new motorway with no blackspots. There are traffic cameras on the gantry's but these are not speed cameras AFAIK.

Sorry mate but if there are specs on the M6 toll road they aint in use. I travel the M6/M6 toll both ways every single day except friday and have been doing so for the past 6 months and as yet I havent seen any evidence of cameras on there. I was also a passenger in a van that got caught doing 98 MPH on the toll road just short of the eastbound plaza by a police radar. Aswell as my Tom Tom has the latest cameraupdates and it dosent show any cameras on the M6 Toll.

Are you sure you mean the toll and not the M42? thats just next to the M6 toll and it has camera gantries just like the M25 J10-16.

just a bit of advice to any one who uses the M25 to the North of London regularly, there have been a set of SPECS cameras fitted to the Holmsdale tunnel (J25-26) by enfield/waltham cross not sure if these are 'live' yet but got e-mail through work (the MET) as a warning.

Did not realise that, strange as i did 140 down most of it early last year,at one point flew past a Porche at 170,(smug git tried it on :D )aaah those were the days :)

You can more or less guarantee that any motorway roadworks have got spec's on them nowadays. I have seen loads of people zooming through thinking the camera signs are just a threat, not realizing that the specs are there looming in the darkness over the hard shoulder reading your number in and checking it out. :headvswal

The road between Manchester and Barnsley the 6...something?? has got little cameras and they are not YELLOW?? they are very consealed.

The worse threat IMO are still those horrible mobile b'strds :smash:

Lol, thats 10 more than I've ever done in it mate! Good to know its there. I'm the not so proud owner of 9 points now though so am driving round slow like the scared criminal that I am in case I loose my licence.  Just have to get to the track this year I suppose!

Did 120+ in my old Cavalier SRi most of the way from the M40 to where the M6 meets the M56 in Cheshire not so long ago, never heard anything since and I went via the M6 toll rd. Have also been to Carlisle via the M6 without any hassle Once you've passed Lancaster you're more likely to get pulled over because mobile cameras aren't often in use on the northern part of the M6. The only place where I've seen SPECS cameras was on the Thelwall viaduct during roadworks on the M6 some time back.

I believe that the SPECS are in operation as you approach Manchester going north on the M6, I don't know if there are any further north. I know this because my brothers Road Angel told me when I borrowed his car.
