Hello everyone.

I jusr signed up a couple of days ago so i thought id introduce myself

I'm James, from Middlesbrough, and im 20.

I'm currently looking for a Z TT, and just got a couple of questions.

Firstly, is there a site or post that could tell me what are the different models/ engines etc of the Z. i am right in saying there is a UK TT and are they all 2+2's?

my ideal one would be a UK TT with targa/ tbar top as ive always liked them.

I havent got a massive budget for the car as a fair bit will be going on insurance, as im only young, so what should i be looking to spend? would £3-4k get me a nice Z?

Anyway, cheers in advance.!

Welcome James. 3-4k hould get you a nice one. Keep you eye on this site as some of the members do sell theirs and it should be well looked after. Any reason why you are not considering an import.

Any reason why you are not considering an import.

its only because of insurance. on the quotes ive had, its was £400 more for an import. ill keep a look for in the for sale section.

and the FAQ section is great :hyper:

the only thing about buying a Z im worried about is fuel. ive got a feeling its going to be pretty evil consumption. should i be worried bout it?

cheers for the replies!

Welcome James,

Fuel consumption, Well, what you'll have to remember it is a 3000cc V6 Twin Turbo, thats not the lightest car ever, sooooo, needless to say its not the most frugal car there is LOL. But there has been guys on here that have done 320+ miles out of a tank (not me im afraid LOL) but i'd be guessing that would be mainly motorway driving!

Have a few drives of one and you wont worry about how much fuel its using!! :D

Will it be your only car or a 2nd car??

Keep a look out in the For sale section as there is some good Z's that get sold on here, also, its better buying it from an enthusiast rather than some Arthur daley trader! ;)

All the best

Rich

it is going to be my only car, yeah. however, my uni is only 5 miles away, and there arent many places i go that are too far away (apart from the shows ill surely be going to) so i shouldnt be doing that many miles.

in my first year of driving in my last car (lil honda civic), i did 30000 miles, cos i was going to london and back each week, but i certainly wont be doing that with a Z, lol. ill just have to TRY and keep my right foot in check. easier said than done.

Hello, good morning and welcome - you're just up the road from me so we should get to meet at one of the NE get togethers.

My bit of advice for the night is: take your time over buying, test drive as many as you can (TT's and NA's, autos and manuals)and keep an eye on the Zeds in this site's For Sale forum.

cheers for the advice apache. i am looking for a TT manual, but i suppose its a good idea to test them all out, so i can see the difference between them all, and hopefully get an idea about how each should be performing.

where u from then? is there many people from the north/north east on here? on most forums, there are usually only a small number of northeners, lol.

Hey up mate - I'm from down t'road in Ripon, North Yorks. There's quite a few Zed owners in this part of the country. Check out the NE forum.

WELCOME BUD :hyper:

If you know your mileage won,t be high , go for a limited mileage policy , should keep the cost down a bit

Hello mate, another north east guy here :D

im just up in sunderland but im down 'boro about 3 or 4times a week as i play basketball at eston for the teesside mowhawks.

I would definately say dont just rush in and buy a zed straight away as thats what i did and now im paying for it to be fixed :(

but we will learn from our mistakews of course, well ill try to anyway :D

As for the car you want it'll be hard to find a uk one (well harder anyway).

WEith regards to insurance i would say try adding your parents to the policy (maybe even auties and uncles if they are a bit older) who have been driving a while.

I did this and put my bro in law and sister on mine and im paying £566 on my TT and im only 23 but i do have 4years ncb too.

possibly try admiral with your age.

Anyway mate, welcome to the club, its got to be the best one :D

cheers for the comments.

im guessing that there are a lot less UK TT's than imports?

The best quote i've had so far is with Elephant. Adrian Flux want £3k  I'll give Admiral a try as well though.

I've added some family members on the quotes, which did bring it down a healthy amount, so now i've just got to find a nice example.

I've only very recently (ie three days ago) decided i'd like a Z. I was going to get a VW Corrado VR6 or an MR2, but only just realised that ZX's are in my price range, which needless to say, put a smile on my face :D :hyper:

I've only had one car since i pass 2 1/2 years ago (a little 1.5 civic), but that died (cambelt snapped) and it wasnt worth fixing, as it was gonna cost around 650 quid. So, i haven'd driven in around 8 months, and i've never driven a RWD car before, so i'm gonna have to take it very easy, especially as it will probably be in the wintertime i get one.

Anyway, apologies for the long post. lol

£3k won't get you a nice one I don't think. NA maybe. But I'd look at spending £4k+ on something as mint and as tidy as you can find. A good one is always worth it's money. Don't be tempted to buy the cheapest one, after all, it's not a Ford Fiesta.

@ 20, I'd start getting some insurance quotes first. It's gonna cost you quite a bit to insure.

ive got an insurance quote that im happy with, so that shouldnt be a problem.

im not looking to buy one that is absolutely in mint condition, but one that has nice bodywork (ie no bad rust etc) and a sturdy engine would be fine. should i able to find one like this for around 4k?

also, ive read in a few places to stay away from the 1990 model? is there any major reasons why i shouldnt go for one of these, or is it just because the later models had a few upgraded changes?

welcome bud, im also in sunderland (like bird) mine is a white uk tt manual 92 that i paid 4300 for, i bought a bit of a knacker bodywise and has recently been crashed into

but it has never failed to get me to work, always started first time so cant all be bad

i only get 60 miles for 20 quid's worth of petrol, but its worth it

also be very carefull with that back end (its like a marine always hanging out lol)

60miles out of £20? your doing better than me, i only got 44 and i dont even have the power :headvswal . . . . . . yet that is :D

ill tell you what though at the minute tyhe fuel consumption is second to none. . . .

UK cars may with some companies be slightly cheaper to insure, BUT manyof the UK cars at the cheaper end of the price spectrum that you are looking at are now well on the way to rusting out. You will soon double or treble your insurance "saving" on welding/fabrication repairs.

Many of the recent Imports are "like new" underneath.

Another factor in favour of imports is (usually) their lower mileage. Lots of UK cars had "business users" as first owners, who clocked up lots of miles.

The above are general points of course. It is possible to find low mileage, not rusted out UK cars, but not at your end of the price spectrum.

i suppose if i spend a few hundred pound more to insure an import i might save it in the long run by not having to spend hundreds on repairs from buying a poor Uk example. I'll have a look into it.

44 miles from 20 quid?! pants! lol

Yeah, but its an auto and its also got a dead gearbox too :headvswal

Soon to be remedied :D
