hello there, I have recently bought a 1990 japanese imported 300zx non turbo. Since buying it I have heard that all japanese imports are restricted to 112 mph. I NEED to go faster, can anybody offer any advice as to how to de-restrict my nice noisy sluggish beast. :bow: :headvswal

Best way in my opinion is to get it rechipped, they are available from Greddy, DTA and a few other places.

Mate if don't won't to go for a chip , you can get a speed de-limiter from the likes of the z-centre for bout 110 qud ish fitted ! :hyper:

That is another option but how many times have I read on here about people having problems caused by these.

and thats about twice the cost of a chip !

Had one fitted in mine for bout three years bud with no probs! The z-centre is in notts , they may be somebody in your neck of the woods that cud help you! :hyper:

im in the same boat as the thread starter. hes probabaly like me. knows sweet FA about nissan 300zx's!! can you guys tell us what we need in plain english!!! what does chipping do? what is a chip? what are those tricky bits and bobs on ebay for 40 and 50 quid? what works and what doesnt? HELP US!!! :cry:

First of all if its cheap (usually ebay) I doubt it will be much cop for a Zed, these cars respond to money. If you want to derestrict it you can use a converter which alters the speed sensor output but if fitted wrong can cause all sorts of speed related issues or go for a chip, it will then be set to run on UK fuel with the limiter removed etc. For an idea of where to start on modding an NA look at my rides or if your subscribe to the club there is a dedicated NA tuning forum. Talk to the traders on here about what to do as well, they respond well to subscribed members and know their stuff.

a chip removes the limiter on the speedo so instead of buying a speedo convertor that has a habit of interfeering with the sensitve speed sensor it enables the limiter to be removed,and may- depending on the chip also increase the rev limiter slightly

 

stay away from the cheap chips on ebay allthough one of the mebers on here sells them on ebay and the chip is fine IIRC

 

as the chip is socketed in to your ECU and needs to be soldered in,unless it has been done already,a good tv/auto electrician can fit one,but i wouldnt recomend you do it yourself,as its very fiddly and can be expensive if you damage the ECU

Use a set of UK clocks to change to MPH and a chip from DTA Greddy etc, like I said earlier its the best way to go IMO.

Got my UKTT De restricted from 165MPH with a chip!! :D

I got mine done by a member in here... and he chipped my ecu de restricted it and removed that daft wire that chimes at about 60mph.

mine is a NA import as well. and wow what a differance...
